Spring Fashion 2014: 194 photos of the top 10 trends of the season
References to hibernation aside, spring always feels like a reawakening. This season’s runways offered a series of wake-up calls by way of unique pairings, new approaches to femininity and dramatic looks. The constantly re-emerging athletic trend has gone straight up hood, with street-approved jerseys, retro bombers and low-slung pants giving it new life. Tommy […]

All new Gap: Inside the retailer’s Spring 2014 collection with powerhouse creative director Rebekka Bay
See the Gap Spring 2014 lookbook »
There’s nothing the fashion world loves more than a new style muse and when Gap hired Rebekka Bay as its creative director last year, our sartorial spidey senses went into overdrive. The mastermind behind upscale H&M sister brand COS, the soft-spoken Danish designer has already achieved cult standing among editors, bloggers and cool kids alike for her sophisticated approach to modern minimalist dressing.
Spring 2014 marks Bay’s first collection with Gap, and if insider reactions at the presentation in New York back in October were any indication, she hasn’t lost her Midas touch. Featuring a summer-ready lineup of acid-wash jeans, bleached pastels and perfectly slouchy sweatshirts, her spring collection is a lust-worthy first look at a re-imagined Gap and a new American style that’s refreshing, relaxed and seriously cool. We sat down with the newly minted creative director after her spring presentation to talk icons, Americana and giving Gap its mojo back.

Top Spring 2014 Trends: 200 fashion week photos
See the biggest Spring 2014 fashion trends »
See all our fashion month coverage »With the end of fashion week in Toronto marking the close of Spring 2014 show season, it’s time we looked back at all the trends that emerged. As much as the runway sets the pace for what’s to come for the top Spring 2014 trends, the streets play a major role as show-going trendsetters give us the relatable breakdown of how to wear what’s hot next season. Prints take two spots on our top Spring 2014 trends list through those with a painterly quality and those influenced by international cultures. At Hérmes, Rousseau-inspired water lily florals were printed on luxurious fabrics while at Diane Von Furstenberg, dresses and skirts depicting an African wilderness roared. As for fashionable time travel, prepare to keep reminiscing about the youthful 1990s, which haven’t ceased to get reincarnated season after season. Designers like Rodarte, Balmain and Jason Wu have reinvented the decade’s essentials yet again. To help with your daydreaming of long sunny spring days we’ve compiled the ultimate gallery of top Spring 2014 trends as dictated by the runways and our favourite street style stars in New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto! Feel free to let this be your guide to budgeting and creating closet space for next season’s must have pieces.
View by trend: 1. 1990s | 2. Art-Inspired | 3. Athletic | 4. Blue | 5. Crop Tops | 6. Embellishment | 7. Metallic | 8. Pleats | 9. Sheer | 10. Worldly

Paris Fashion Week: The top 6 trends in the works for Spring 2014 from Céline to Stella and beyond

There’s only two more days of Paris Fashion Week Spring 2014, but the trends are already clear. There’s plenty to satisfy the street fashion stars who have an endless appetite for flamboyance. Here are the top trends:

Paris Fashion Week: New shapes, fabrics and more at Lanvin, Dior, Chalayan and Isabel Marant for Spring 2014
Without actually going into the showroom and touching the fabrics it’s hard to know what you are looking at sometimes here at Paris Fashion Week Spring 2014.
Some of the shiny fabrics that designer Alber Elbaz showed for Lanvin on Thursday night looked crispy and light, like a glittery silk but that’s just hoping. I had the same issue at Hussein Chalayan with velourish-looking towel dresses, and molded gowns that were fuzzy at the bodice but melded into a smooth surface everywhere else.
On the other hand, Isabel Marant’s materials were a no-brainer. There were miles of ruffled cotton for peasant tops and zippered jackets with flouncy shoulders; frayed cotton denims with raised diamond patterns, and lace mini-dresses and bra tops. Where Marant’s collection had a natural, earthy realness almost everything Elbaz did shimmered and gleamed in the most unnatural way. Paris is in the throws of a passionate love affair with reflective fabrics.
One of my favourite Paris Fashion Week pastimes is watching the Showstudio live panel discussions. What stood out during the one on Dior was how the participants kept comparing Raf Simons’ Dior to John Galliano’s Dior. Interesting that Monsieur Christian Dior was barely mentioned

Paris Fashion Week: The sportif trend invades Balenciaga, Carven and more for Spring 2014
Balenciaga and Carven for Spring 2014 »
“I wish I had these on my feet right now,” one journalist lamented, inspecting a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood sport sandals at the designer’s Spring 2014 preview. Yes you heard that right. The same designers who brought heels to new heights have discovered rubber soles and flats.
It’s all part of the sportif trend which has a grip on Europe. On day two of the Paris Fashion Week Spring 2014, the backdrop at Carven was a half-pipe and the opening soundtrack was of skateboard wheels rolling up and down. The boarding spirit appeared in colourful camouflage prints with insets of camo lace. But Carven designer Guillaume Henry’s boxy jean jackets, A-line dresses and long stiff coats didn’t look made for motion.
He’s not alone. This is Paris, after all. Not the land of Lycra.

Street Style, London: Alexa Chung, Susie Bubble and so many fabulous fall coats outside Spring 2014 fashion week
See the London street style photos »
After showing off stellar outfit after outfit in New York City, fashion week regulars—as well as our photographer Stefania Yarhi—packed up and headed across the pond. London Fashion Week kicked off on Friday and, as our newest batch of street style shots will reveal, everyone brought their A-game.
London’s street style definitely took a turn from what we saw at NYFW—though the change in weather may also be responsible. Bundling upon one of fall’s favourite trend, stylish attendees kept warm in fabulous coats. Everything from leopard print to fur to on-trend shades of pink and grey were spotted as they hopped from one show to the next.

Street Style, New York: 17 photos of Leandra Medine, Anna Dello Russo and more on the final day of Spring 2014 shows
New York Fashion Week has officially wrapped up with top-tiered shows by Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs finishing the week off on a stylish note. But before everyone flies off to the other side of the Atlantic, let’s have one last look at New York street style’s finest, captured by our photographer Stefania Yarhi.
With yesterday’s weather still relatively warm, many of the ladies took full advantage and bared some skin on the last day of NYFW. Possibly influenced by the minimalist looks on the runways, our favourite Russian beaut Miroslava Duma—whose outfits never fail to disappoint—wowed in a two-tone sleeveless calf-length dress. Leandra Medine also exposed her legs in a pair of high-waist shorts and high-heeled Balenciaga oxfords, but it was Anna Dello Russo (of course!) who caught everyone’s attention in a white mini dress and a pair of Céline furry neon-yellow pumps. Also killing it with the accessories was one stunning blonde who strutted the streets like nobody’s business in a black sheer laced dress and a lust-worthy “Cool” Lanvin necklace.

Street Style, New York: 51 star-studded photos of Nicki Minaj, Julianne Moore and more outside Spring 2014 fashion week
It’s day seven of New York Fashion Week which means NYFW is officially wrapping up. With the scorching weather, everybody was happy to peel off layers and embrace the heat with summer dresses. While Miroslava Duma and Olivia Palermo showed off their toned legs in printed ensembles, a few fashion show regulars took cues from the Spring 2014 runway by pulling out pleated skirts and sheer fabrics.

See the top 10 moments from Montreal Fashion Week Spring 2014 »
Montreal Fashion Week has wrapped its 25th season with Spring 2014. On the heels of an official statement announcing major structural changes (read: budget cuts) to the biannual event as soon as February 2014, there was a wistful “end of an era” wind in the air. Will we say goodbye to Arsenal as our MFW headquarters? Will there be runway presentations next year? Only time will tell. But before we look ahead and contemplate the future, let’s look back at spring 2014 top 10 moments. Be ready for the return of black and white and sheer fabrics next spring and summer.
