Top Spring 2014 Trends: 200 fashion week photos
See the biggest Spring 2014 fashion trends »
See all our fashion month coverage »With the end of fashion week in Toronto marking the close of Spring 2014 show season, it’s time we looked back at all the trends that emerged. As much as the runway sets the pace for what’s to come for the top Spring 2014 trends, the streets play a major role as show-going trendsetters give us the relatable breakdown of how to wear what’s hot next season. Prints take two spots on our top Spring 2014 trends list through those with a painterly quality and those influenced by international cultures. At Hérmes, Rousseau-inspired water lily florals were printed on luxurious fabrics while at Diane Von Furstenberg, dresses and skirts depicting an African wilderness roared. As for fashionable time travel, prepare to keep reminiscing about the youthful 1990s, which haven’t ceased to get reincarnated season after season. Designers like Rodarte, Balmain and Jason Wu have reinvented the decade’s essentials yet again. To help with your daydreaming of long sunny spring days we’ve compiled the ultimate gallery of top Spring 2014 trends as dictated by the runways and our favourite street style stars in New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto! Feel free to let this be your guide to budgeting and creating closet space for next season’s must have pieces.

New York Fashion Week backstage beauty: 57 pictures of the best manicures and nail art from the Spring 2014 shows
See the Spring 2014 nail art looks up close »
The nails at New York Fashion Week were right in tune with the ’90s minimalism style we saw on the Spring 2014 runways. Sheer is in, colour is out and the nail art trend seems to be winding down. The bare and buffed nails of last spring are still going strong for 2014, with designers like Altuzarra, Alexander Wang and Jeremy Laing opting for pale shades of pink, lavender or beige instead of punchy pastels and neon brights.

Taylor Swift vs. Kaley Cuoco: Who wore it best on the Academy of Country Music Awards red carpet?
Country music award shows have the tendency to bring out a whole lot of glitz—heavy on the glamour. And while last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards definitely had a few very, err, colourful gowns (we’re looking at you, Carrie Underwood) Taylor Swift and Kaley Cuoco both showed how simpler is often better.
Taylor Swift was looking sassy as ever and refused to flash a genuine smile while walking the carpet in a gunmetal Dolce & Gabbana column dress. Her gown had large embellishments at the neckline making her have no need for any accessories except for a simple pair of drop earrings. She toned down her beauty look and pulled her hair back into a low ponytail with a soft smoky eye and a nude lip.

FASHION Plates: 3 ways to update your ugly Christmas sweater party outfit
In recent years, the ugly sweaters you used to see your quirky aunt wearing at family gatherings have become a holiday staple and a ubiquitous party theme. Even Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney have designed their own versions. They said/We said: BCBG’s former president heading to Halston
Since Sarah Jessica Parker, Harvey Weinstein and Marios Schwab left Halston, rumours have been running rampant about who their successors will be. Now, WWD is reporting that although he initially denied rumours of heading to Halston, Ben Malka, the former president of BCBG Max Azria Group, has been crowned as chairman and chief executive officer of the company.
In his 16 years at BCBG, Malka established the company in womenswear and built relations for BCBG with retailers like Bloomingdale’s, which—coincidentally—is stocking Halston for the first time this fall. For now, we’ll have to wait to see if Malka can perform the same magic to revive what’s left of Halston.
The company is still missing a creative director, but there’s a chance that the former creative director of BCBG, Marie Mazelis, will be following Malka’s lead. If that’s the case, you can bet on a total transformation of Halston into something a little more…BCBG.

NYFW diary: Lincoln Center’s secret service and a tonal palette at BCBG
It’s only the first day of New York fashion week but they are everywhere. At the front doors. Beside the washrooms. On the plastic covered runway before the lights dim. They are the men in black (and not because it’s fashionable). They are the Lincoln Center’s fashion week security squad. I spotted a cluster of these fine gents patrolling the runway pre-BCBG Max Azria this morning. I don’t envy them. Day in and day out they deal with pre-and post-show stampedes, Super Bowl-worthy pushing, seat stealers and the industry’s best (and worst) liars (“I have to get backstage to see the designer, I’m his cousin/sister/former babysitter”). If you ever have the opportunity to meet one, do so. Bet you a pair of front row seats at the show of your choice you can’t make one smile.

New York Fashion Week diary: BCBG, Jason Wu and tech troubles at the tents
One word sums up the first days of the Spring 2011 ready-to-wear collections at New York Fashion Week: Fresh. Eds, buyers and bloggers are glossed, fully powered-up (in every sense of the word) and ready for the runways. Models arrive backstage bright-eyed with clear complexions and nary a blister in sight (just wait until Paris….). Even our home for the week got a swish new makeover this season: Good-bye Bryant Park, hello Lincoln Centre. It’s tricked out and teched out (hey, it’s a bloggers world, baby). Want to avoid the long check-in lines? Just swipe the barcode on your show printout at one of the airport-inspired self-check-in stands. But be prepared for a snafu or two. (“Does this thing work?” rivals “Who are you wearing?” as the most overheard query.)
