Fashion math: Save money (theoretically) by flying to England to buy Mark Fast and Erdem
The work of four Canadian designers will be featured in a designer pop-up at an outlet mall outside of Oxford, England. The British Design Collective at Bicester Village outlet mall offers buyers the opportunity to pick up looks from Erdem, Mark Fast, Jean Pierre Braganza and Todd Lynn (as well as, you know, some British designers) at up to 50 per cent off. The pop-up opens March 31 and will be open for six weeks.
For argument’s sake, lets take these pieces from Mark Fast and Erdem that we found at full price on British retailer Browns’ website (brownsfashion.com). (Browns has no affiliation with the sale, nor do we know if these pieces will be available.) The pieces are, from clockwise from the top left corner, left, are £1,595, £985, £420 and £240. At the current rate of exchange that’s at total of CAD$4,910.
Let’s do some fashion math:

Fashion news: Tony Blair goes luxe, cavewoman beauty and Michael Kors, video game hero
Our gamer prayers have been answered: A video game based on Project Runway launches March 2. According to WWD, Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum and Michael Kors “don’t carry Uzis, kill monsters or zoom along city streets in souped-up hot rods, ” but that would be amazing! [WWD]
Tony Blair turns from politics to luxury goods. Although not yet confirmed, a source has revealed that Mr. Blair is wrapping up a deal with LVMH to work in an advisory role for the world’s largest luxury goods firm. [Grazia]

The Bay makes a Blanket Statement with ten Canadian designers
Back in October, we told you about the Bay’s new line of Canadiana–The Hudson’s Bay Company Collection–the brings canoes, paddles and point blankets together with collaborations with Canadian fashion names such as Pink Tartan, Harricana and Virginia Johnson. The line launched Tuesday night at a packed cocktail party where guests noshed on de rigueur nouveau comfort food–grilled cheese sandwiches with homemade ketchup, potatoes with bison tartare and maple syrup poured over freezer-made snow. The big attraction of the evening was the official unveiling of ten one-of-a-kind coats–together dubbed The Blanket Statement–that the Bay commissioned from a group of Canadian designers who played with the iconic point blanket. Video: Erdem Spring 2010
“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” So says Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Even for Erdem himself, florals are nothing new. And yet, when a designer consistently does flowers as beautifully as Moralioglu, it’s hard to complain. On his clothes, they always look fresh in vibrant colours or the intricate, near 3-D embroidery of the […]

London: Erdem, Jasper Conran, NewGen, Paul Smith Fall 2009
Best thing about LFW: all the different venues. More shows are held outside the great white tents than in them. From the Saatchi Gallery to the Science Museum, a repurposed industrial warehouse to a shabby-genteel flat, every day is a whipstitch through London’s patchwork heart. Yesterday morning was a favourite: Erdem (Montreal-born, London-adored) showcased his FW ‘09 collection in the Embankment Galleries at Somerset House. Down by the Thames and across a cobblestoned courtyard, it couldn’t have been better on a postcard.
