Resort wear has always been geared towards the fashion elite, or at least to those who lead a luxurious life that entails travelling to somewhere warm and tropical during the unbearably cold winter months, especially when resort heavyweights include Chanel, Dior and Oscar de la Renta. However, with more and more contemporary designers adding the vacation-inspired collection to their repertoire, Resort collections are becoming a bigger part of the fashion industry, and are thus naturally more coveted by the masses. It also helps to have A-list stars rocking envious resort ensembles as of late. Although Christian Dior the brand is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its Rouge Dior line this year, the truth is that Christian Dior the man made his first lipstick four years earlier. He conceived it in 1949 as a sort of limited-edition gift with purchase, sending it to the most loyal clients of his Colifichet boutique on Avenue Montaigne in Paris as a Christmas present. No doubt those ladies treasured their new makeup staple, as would Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker and Grace Kelly some years later.

Since then, Rouge Dior has encompassed 1,500 shades—from the first eight colours designed to match different couture outfits to the lurid ’70s brights dreamed up by former cosmetic artistic director Serge Lutens to the two newest additions: Darling (a vibrant pink) and Trafalgar (a punchy coral). The latter takes its name from Monsieur Dior’s old “Coup de Trafalgar” trick of throwing a notice-me bright red dress into a long runway presentation to make sure his audience wasn’t dozing.

This summer it felt like the wedding bells kept ringing, and ringing, and ringing and, oh you get the picture. It was a big summer for celebrities like Natalie Portman who tied the knot with French choreographer and Black Swan co-star and Drew Barrymore who married art consultant Will Kopelman. Even our favourite Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, locked it down with longtime on and off boyfriend Abe Cohen.

On the long list of summer celebrity weddings, Blake Lively and Anne Hathaway were some of the most talked about. Mouths were agape when it was revealed Lively didn’t wear Chanel OR Gucci when secretly marrying Ryan Reynolds. She opted to wear a custom made Marchesa gown (not too shabby).

Some of the top Fall runway trends made their way deep into red carpet territory tonight, as the A-listers put on Hollywood’s biggest and best parade. From the rich reds on Emma Stone and Natalie Portman seen this season on the runway at Michael Kors, to the crisp whites on Gwyneth Paltrow, Rooney Mara, and Octavia Spencer seen at Raf Simons‘ last Jil Sander collection (not to mention everywhere at the Golden Globes), to the peplums spotted on Michelle Williams, Tina Fey, and just about every runway from New York to Milan, it seems that everyone is drinking the same Kool-Aid. But who did it best? We’re loving Gwyneth, Michelle, Jessica, Rooney, and Angelina (her right leg gets a special shout-out), but who makes your cut?
