Paris Fashion Week: Fall 2014 is anything but ordinary at Dries Van Noten and Rochas
See the first looks from Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014 »
I’m thrilled to have escaped the snow for sunshine in the city of light. A balmy 8 degrees makes show hopping a breeze. A few takeaways from day one:
The minimalism and simplicity shown in New York is nowhere to be seen during Paris Fashion Week for Fall 2014. Jewellery designer Eddie Borgo‘s new designs are more technical and complex than ever. Buffed to a shimmering shine, sandstone on cuffs and rings bring a new sense of colour and dimension to his work, while rows of red string tassels make a bold statement on layered necklaces. Dries van Noten proved yet again that he’s the master of mixed materials, incorporating foil flowers, felted stripes and a sea of sequins on his designs. Rochas, helmed for the first season by Alessandro Del Acqua, held nothing back in terms of embellishment. Giant gems and heavy appliqués adorned stiff, voluminous fabrics. These clothes will be wearing you, in the best possible way.

Street Style, New York: 54 photos of Courtney Love, Jenna Lyons and Rachel Zoe outside Spring 2014 fashion week
See the street style image from New York Fashion Week »
We’re deep into New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 and the sidewalks are officially stacked with the biggest names in fashion—-Solange! Hanne! Giovanna! Put all those fashionistas together and you get a sidewalk-turned-runway full of inspirational, colourful, and sometimes outlandish clothing.
Being total ‘90s children, all the grunge styling had Nirvana on repeat in our heads for the third season running. Plaid and denim were featured in everything from Canadian tuxedos (what what!) to jumpsuits to ankle length denim skirts. So totally ‘90s!. Leather showed up on track pants, dresses, and the sleeves of the most covet-worthy trench of all time. Even The Newsroom’s Emily Mortimer was wearing leather Jason Wu get-up.

Curly hair is easier to master than an updo, looks much more dramatic than a ponytail and definitely has an appeal that straight hair just can’t match. Need further proof? We’ve gathered some of the best curly hair and wavy hair looks from recent red carpets all in one place. (If you haven’t already logged into your Pinterest account, now’s the time!)

Neo Surfer: 14 shopping picks that take the Hawaiian print trend to the next level
See Hawaiian print trend picks »
Dip into summer with a brightly- coloured pencil skirt, or a bold-printed sandal. From the shades to the shoes, the tropical trend is all about botanical prints and eye-popping neons. We’re taking cues from Selena Gomez, who recently stunned in a seriously colourful Hawaiian print Dolce & Gabbana top at the SXSW premiere of Spring Breakers, and Solange Knowles, who took the take to the stage in botanical printed Pencey head-to-toe suit.

Grammys 2013: 10 of the best dressed singers and starlets on the red carpet
See the 10 best dressed looks from the 2013 Grammys »
Despite a memo from CBS warning stars to cover up, there was still much skin to be seen on the 2013 Grammy Awards red carpet. Most notable was Katy Perry, who stunned in a mint-green Gucci Resort 2013 dress that was skin-tight and featured an embellished keyhole detail which showed off her ample cleavage. Perry’s look was part Priscilla Presley, part Lana Del Rey and she certainly pulled off the ’70s-inspired style well.
Solange Knowles also wore green, though her beaded Ralph & Russo Couture gown was more of a vibrant emerald hue. Solange is known for her quirky and colourful outfits and her neon-pink Louboutins added personality to her look. Solange’s dress featured a thigh-high slit—a style that was seen on a number of starts last night at the 2013 Grammys. (Clearly Angie’s right leg is still dictating red carpet trends!) Jennifer Lopez took the slit to the next level with an Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 gown that seemed to almost tuck in like a pair of hot pants at the top of her thigh. The asymmetrical draped black silk gown certainly showed off her toned body and was set off with shiny gold accessories—and a matching pointy gold manicure.
Black and white was definitely a trend at the 2013 Grammys, as it was for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards red carpet. Beyoncé wore both black and white in an architectural jumpsuit by Osman. The somewhat casual-yet-still-smoking look was certainly one of a kind on the red carpet and Beyoncé accessorized with black and white cuffs and a red pout. Our former cover girl Carly Rae Jepsen wowed in a dark, metallic Roberto Cavalli gown. The mermaid silhouette looked amazing with her dark hair, porcelain skin and enviable body. Carrie Underwood also wore a black strapless mermaid silhouette gown by Roberto Cavalli—though where Jepsen’s was beaded, Underwood’s dress featured lace and embroidery.

It’s a pantsuitpalooza! The 10 best fashion moments from Solange Knowles’ “Losing You” music video
See the 10 best moments from Solange’s “Losing You” video »
Solange Knowles means business in her music video for “Losing You.” No, actually: she looks like she could be heading to work in a variety of bright pantsuits and printed blazers. But really, she’s just hanging out in South Africa and looking amazing while doing so. Solange earns major style points for having one of the most visually appealing music videos we’ve seen since Grimes’ “Genesis” and, even better, the song is pop music perfection.
Many of the moments from “Losing You” feel like they could be editorial campaigns for major fashion houses, thanks to the amazing styling and artistic shots. (Let’s be thankful Solange didn’t turn to House of Deréon to design the clothing—ahem, like in the days of Destiny’s Child—because we likely wouldn’t be talking about the video if that was the case.) With what feels like a never ending parade of prints, bright colours and a beautiful Solantourage (see what we did there?), the video confirms our guess that Beyonce’s little sister is onto something big. Now excuse us while we go practice our shoulder-popping dance moves…

Beyonce’s hot hot Heat launch party
When Solange Knowles tells you to “Stop Twittering, put away your phones and dance,” you do. Ms. Knowles, who actually uses far choicer, more imperative words, is spinning Michael Jackson for a crowd that, by and large, is surrounding her older sister with an amphitheatre of phone cameras for Twitpic-ing purposes. The older sister in […]
