Tom Ford’s Spring 2013 ad campaign is the latest to revisit the swinging sixties

Joining the ranks of Prada, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors, Tom Ford’s just-released Spring/Summer 2013 ad campaign takes us back to the swinging sixties. This time, the much referenced decade has been given a refreshing spin through Ford’s signature seductive lens, with four shots starring a Barbarella-style Karlina Caune and James Bond-esqe Simon Van Meervenne outfitted in Tom Ford’s latest designs.
The buzzed-about bondage-inspired gladiator heels that Anne Hathaway wore to the New York Les Miserables premiere are prominently featured in the ad, making for a slight tinge of the perverse—another Tom Ford signature. While Hathaway’s pair were completely vegan, the ones featured are made of patent gold leather and will also be available in croc print.

Michael Kors Spring 2013 Ad Campaign: Bright hues, thick stripes and fancy cars have us California dreamin’
View the Michael Kors Spring 2013 Ad Campaign »
The Michael Kors Spring 2013 ad campaign images have just hit the web and it has us daydreaming of sunshine and road trips. Models Simon Nessman and Karmen Pedaru (a Kors regular) are featured in the campaign shot by Mario Testino, which marks his 10 year anniversary with Michael Kors.
The shoot took place in Los Angeles and has a classic Americana vibe featuring stripes, sunglasses and muscle cars. The shots perfectly capture the Spring 2013 collection which features sportswear and mod inspired looks. Given that Kors was inspired by California for the collection, we’d say that poolside in Palm Springs would suit this collection perfectly.

Miu Miu Spring 2013 Ad Campaign: Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima and Arizona Muse star as innocent ingénues in the seductive new photos

Ruby red walls and delicate pink flowers; tie-dyed furs casually slung over shoulders; duchesse satin dresses and dark denim overcoats: Miu Miu’s modern “dishabille” femme fatale is here, in these just-released images from the label’s Spring 2013 ad campaign.
Photographed in New York by Inez & Vinoodh and starring many models of the moment, including Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima and Arizona Muse, the campaign follows Miu Miu’s tradition of subversive advertising imagery, offering us an updated, very Miuccia Prada-perverse, take on contemporary femininity, rich with nuance and authenticity. Celebrating the Miu Miu woman and all her facets—femme fatale, innocent ingénue, playful belle, nostalgic beauty—the campaign depicts a series of mise-en-scenes in an ambiguous domestic setting. Nonchalant groupings of the girls in various states of (un)dress, crumpled bedsheets, close-ups of a hand here, a high heel there, the campaign is quietly seductive in its portrayal of a new kind of insouciant feminine elegance.

Prada Spring 2013 Ad Campaign: Suddenly those shoes ain’t looking so bad…
See Prada’s Spring 2013 campaign »
It’s been a couple of months since we first feasted on Prada’s Spring 2013 collection, but any weariness of those toe sock/thong shoes has all been washed away with the just-released spring campaign.
Simply put, Prada’s Spring 2013 collection was a whole lotta Japan-meets-sixties look, and it seems that streamlined styling was the name of the game for the Steven Meisel-shot advertising images. The modeling A-list amongst its stars include Raquel Zimmerman, Saskia de Brauw, Eva Herzigova, Sasha Pivovarova, who all pose against stark grey backgrounds in furry coats, hot pants, daisy sunglasses and more. The flatform heels with the toe socks make a re-appearance but have been styled in a way that we know when Fall 2013 street style photos come pouring in, these shoes have the potential to shot day after day.

Joe Fresh Spring 2013 look book: 48 items that are sure to be your new must-haves
See the Joe Fresh Spring 2013 collection »
Joe Fresh may have turned down the colour palette for its Spring 2013 collection but that’s not to say the collection was anything less than visually striking. Metallics, black and white prints infused with pops of yellow came together to create a sixties-inspired collection that was completely modern and ready for 2013.
Now that the rest of the collection for spring has been released, we’re excited to see these retro-inspired designs take form and be mixed in with what we’ve grown accustomed to from Joe Fresh—coloured sweaters, bright oxfords and bold pants.

Top 10 Fashion Trends, Spring 2013: We distill over a month of runway and street style photos into 100 of the season’s strongest moments
See the biggest Spring 2013 fashion trends »
See all of our fashion month coverage »It’s official, Spring 2013 fashion month is over. And after receiving a daily dose of street style photos and runway updates, it would be silly for us to ignore the trends that we saw day after day (after day, after day). It’s hard not to fall victim to sensory overload, but thankfully our street style photographer, Stefania Yarhi, made it easy for us to pick and choose which trends we know we’ll be seeing all spring long. With hundreds of photos from Paris, Milan, London, New York, and Toronto at our disposal, we just couldn’t ignore the countless graphic tops (a day without a Balenciaga sci-fi sweater sighting was a total shocker), exposed bellies, suits, and mixed prints—so we didn’t because we’re positive they will be huge come Spring 2013. We’ve selected 10 of the biggest fashion trends from the streets and the runways and put them together in one place, so gets to clickin’. The leaves may just be starting to fall, but it’s never too early to plan for spring, right? (RIGHT!)

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Pat Cleveland launches a standout 55-look collection at Joe Fresh with envy-inducing ease
See the Joe Fresh Spring 2013 collection photos »
After a quick, swinging 1960s op-art themed projection set the tone, the tent at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto erupted in genuine cheers, even hoots, as model legend Pat Cleveland minced down the runway in her sprightly half-dance, half-strut. In town to lend star power to the Canadian premiere of the documentary Versailles ’73, Cleveland stole the whole Joe Fresh shebang—it didn’t really matter what she was wearing. The army of other models (including Meghan Collison and Grace Mahary) showed off loads of things we’ll want to wear in ‘60s-mad Spring 2013: mini shift dresses, trapeze jackets, illusion dots and op-art prints in fabrics that are definitely of this century (neoprene, now a familiar Joe Fresh signature, perforated faux-leather, a fabric seemingly textured to resemble lizard skin). White, black, silver and sky blue were the only colours in the sky, with a small golden punctuation mark at the end in the form of a mixed metallic doily dress and foil painted denim—an update to fall’s waxed jeans we’re all obsessed with. Joe Fresh’s shoe designers came up with round-toed, white mesh heels, perforated pointy Mary-Janes and a chunky, pointed Céline-like pump, best in that baby blue. Pat Cleveland took her time leading and then falling behind her youthful colleagues in the finale, neither she nor we wanting her moment in the limelight to end.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Evan Biddell takes us on an animal print-infused adventure
See Evan Biddell’s Spring 2013 collection »
Evan Biddell’s eponymous Spring 2013 collection was a trip—but to where, we’re not entirely sure. After a two-year hiatus from fashion, the designer took us on what started as an African safari, then moved to Asia, then to the Matrix and finally ended at Andy Warhol’s Factory.
Despite our confusion about the thread that holds it all together there were some definite stand-out moments. The look that caught our eye was a white slouchy dress with thigh-high slits that showed off a pair of extremely tight short shorts. Finished off with a draped black jacket, the look was strong and clear—and thankfully lacking the animal prints that appeared on many other items in the collection. As we’ve seen on other runways in Toronto, the leather moto-jacket is trending for Spring 2013 and made at appearance at Even Biddell over a tone-on-tone printed bubble shaped dress. On another look, leather fringe hung off the back of a bodycon dress.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Pink Tartan hits the sixties-inspired sweetspot with Charlotte Free in tow
See the Pink Tartan Spring 2013 collection »
Kimberley Newport-Mimran returned to her signature sunny disposition last night during the first night of World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, showcasing a confection-sweet Pink Tartan collection of 38 looks for Spring 2013.
Opening with the aptly pink-haired Charlotte Free in a butterfly-printed crop bustier and pale pink full skirt, the looks that followed worn by the homegrown likes of Alana Zimmer, Irina Lazereanu and Amanda Laine were shaped with the kind of sixties-inspired aesthetic that always seems welcome. Staying within a predominantly pastel palette of mint green, cornflower yellow and lightly-sheened gold and silver, Newport-Mimran gave shimmering shift dresses, baby-dolls, flared jumpsuits and light car coats yet another life. And while a particular silver metallic jacquard jumpsuit may prove interesting for real-girl wear, the bulk of the collection is extremely easy to translate into closet worship for all ages.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Tanya Taylor brings her promising flower power-inspired sophomore collection home
See the Tanya Taylor Spring 2013 collection »
Toronto native Tanya Taylor returned home from current home base in New York to show her sophomore collection as the first to be presented in this year’s expat designer portfolio at The ShOws. And it couldn’t have been at a better time. Since starting her career designing for Elizabeth and James after degrees from McGill University and Parsons New School for Design, Taylor’s star has been rising, and since launching her first solo collection last season, we daresay it’s surging to the top.

Front Row Battles: From Emma Stone and Dianna Agron at Miu Miu to Lana Del Rey and Alexa Chung at Mulberry, who did Spring 2013 FROW best?
Check out our front row pictures from Spring 2013 Fashion Week! »
Front row seating at the Spring 2013 Fashion Week collections has been an exciting who’s-who jumble of predictable favourites and amazing surprises this year.
Miu Miu’s Spring 2013 collection was presented today in Paris, with Glee’s Dianna Agron front and centre of the It girl mélage that came to check out Miuccia’s latest creations. Looking quite mod, she wore a ‘60s look of a turquoise dress, blue heels and purple tights, all by Miu Miu. Dianna Agron was seen with actress Amanda Seyfried who was wearing a Prada suit, Emma Stone and Felicity Jones both in Miu Miu and fashion week fixture and designer herself Chloë Sevigny. The girls looked like they were about star in the brand’s latest campaign, although Sevigny can already boast about that.
