FASHION Magazine Summer 2014 cover: Elle Fanning
No 16-year-old on earth can compete with Elle Fanning’s Hollywood cachet. She’s been on set with Cate Blanchett, shopped Rodeo Drive with Sofia Coppola and partied with Miuccia Prada in Milan (being the current spokesperson for Miu Miu and all). If that doesn’t signal a gal who is going places, her latest role in this summer’s Maleficent—which has her sharing the silver screen with Angelina Jolie—will. (P.S. she already shared screen time with Brad Pitt in 2006’s Babel and 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
On the cusp of Fanning’s next phase of fame, FASHION magazine photographed the young starlet for our Summer 2014 Issue in the apropos confines of an estate home in the Hollywood Hills. After she was snapped in outfits by a mix of labels ranging from Blumarine, Delpozo and Paule Ka, Fanning sat down with features editor Elio Iannacci to talk about fashion, film and family time with the Jolie-Pitt clan. Here is a sneak peak of Fanning’s cover story, due to hit newsstand shelves on May 19, 2014.

Oscars 2014: Neutral makeup and pushed-back hair top the best beauty statements from the red carpet
See all the beauty looks from the 2014 Oscars »
Simplicity was key when it came to hair and makeup at the 2014 Oscars. Natural texture, neutral makeup and glowing skin made for the biggest beauty statements of the night, with just a few punchy lip colours and smoky eyes appearing on the red carpet.
For hair, the trend of the night was a tie between the deep side part and no part at all. Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Portia de Rossi, Naomi Watts and Lupita Nyong’o were just a few of the stars to opt for the pushed-back look, keeping hair off their faces. For Lawrence, her finger-combed, almost-bouffant gave a grown-up feel to her fresh pixie cut while still being a hairstyle that wasn’t overly fussy. Adams had one of the more structured hairstyles on the Oscars red carpet, but the slight bump at the front of her very-lacquered updo gave it playful appeal, while Watts’ Grace Kelly-inspired hair made us want to run our fingers through our own throughout the night. Rounding out the pushed-back looks was Nyong’o, who wore a delicate headband that anchored her dramatic style.

Oscars 2014: 20 of the red carpet’s best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards
See the Oscars 2014 red carpet »
Nothing brightens a blustery winter’s eve like some Hollywood glitz and glam. Like every good red carpet devotee, we were glued to the screen to catch all the glitz and glamour from the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles. We scoured the Oscars 2014 red carpet for our best-dressed actresses of the night, and without further ado, your nominees for Best Dressed are…
Breakout movie and style star of the year Best Actress in a Supporting Role winner for 12 Years a Slave Lupita Nyong’o pulled out all the stops in a periwinkle Prada princess gown complete with Fred Leighton headband and jewels. She’s been on a roll this season with carefully chosen frocks and gowns so it came as no surprise that she made the cut—we’re officially #TeamLupita. Fellow Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee Jennifer Lawrence was next level in a red Dior peplum gown, which she yet again managed to trip on with cool girl ease.
Given her glamorous turn in American Hustle, it was only fitting that Best Actress nominee Amy Adams brought some retro glamour to the event. Keeping her best-dressed streak alive, Adams opted for a strapless Gucci Premiere gown, styling her signature red locks in a slick updo. Also sticking to the recent long blue dress trend was Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen. Always one to flawlessly flaunt her eccentric taste, Cate Blanchett maintained her ethereal style in a breathtaking appliqued gown by Armani Prive.
And of course, the Oscars 2014 red carpet wouldn’t have been complete without awards show mainstay Julia Roberts, marking 24 years since her first nomination, wearing Givenchy. Never one to be outdone, the legendary Meryl Streep celebrated her 18th nomination in 35 years, looking as good as ever in Lanvin.
With such a variety of looks and styles, it easy to see why the Oscars 2014 red carpet is arguably the year’s biggest bonanza of beauty and dazzling gowns. Closing out a season of terrific award shows styles with several Best Dressed nominee newcomers, it was tough to pick our favourite from the night. Who was your best dressed? Cast your vote now!

BAFTAs 2014: Our top 5 best dressed on the red carpet
While the rest of us were glued to the screens watching the Olympics and enjoying our long weekend, our friends across the pond were in a star-studded tizzy. The BAFTAs were held on Sunday night at the Royal Opera House in London and the place was lit up with major star-wattage.
Lupita Nyong’o, despite losing out Best Supporting Actress to an absent-Jennifer Lawrence, won the red carpet last night in a stunning Christian Dior Couture gown. The lively green colour was perfectly set off against her skin and gold accessories, and was topped with a flash of magenta lipstick. Despite last week’s more-than-unfortunate outfit, Uma Thurman proved she’s still got it in a breathtaking navy-blue Atelier Versace strapless column dress and diamond choker. With such a striking silhouette, there was no need to clutter it with accessories and frills—Uma is back in our good books with this one. Angelina Jolie hasn’t been on many red carpets of late, but when she turns up, you know it’s going to be good. Wearing a Saint Laurent tux and perfectly matched with hubby and nominee Brad Pit, Jolie looked every bit the bombshell she is with a seductively undone bowtie and wavy locks pushed to one side.

Angelina Jolie stuns in Saint Laurent during her first appearance post double mastectomy
“Very grateful” are the words Hollywood’s leading lady Angelia Jolie used to describe how she was feeling during her first red carpet appearance since undergoing a widely publicized double-mastectomy. The brunette beauty, who announced the news of her preventative procedures to the New York Times on May 14th, described her happiness in seeing the discussion about women’s health expanded since sharing her story. The news has made waves all over the world, encouraging women everywhere to consider their options. FASHION contributor Amy Verner was inspired to share her own experiences with the suddenly “trending topic” in article for the Globe and Mail.
Jolie, who has six children with fiancée Brad Pitt, lost her own mother to ovarian cancer in 2007. When the actress learned that she carried the faulty gene that increased her chances of breast cancer to 87 percent, she chose to take action to minimize her risk. “Life comes with many challenges”, the actress wrote in her New York Times article, “The ones that should not scare us are the ones we can take on and take control of.”

How Angelina Jolie’s preventive double mastectomy has changed the conversation about breast cancer
When Angelina Jolie announced her preventive double mastectomy in yesterday’s New York Times, the almost-instant reactions were unanimous: Jolie was praised for her courage in both having the surgery and opening up to the public about it. Today that openness has continued, with Jolie’s doctor at the Pink Lotus Breast Center posting further details about the decision making process and medical procedures the actress undertook. It is by far the most detailed account we’ve ever read of any celebrity’s private medical information—to the point that you actually have to remind yourself while reading that it’s specifically about Angelina Jolie.
While Jolie’s double mastectomy makes headlines all over the world, other women with “the breast cancer gene” are now coming forward to talk about their own experiences.

Has Angelina Jolie found a wedding dress designer?
If you’ve been placing bets like we have on who’s going to design Angelina Jolie’s wedding dress, you better re-examine your choices. The actress is looking for a designer who is “not so obvious for designing wedding gowns”. The one she’s after? Rumor has it that it’s L’Wren Scott.
Scott, although not known for designing wedding gowns, is a regular go-to for celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker when they hit up red carpet events, and according to a “friend” of Jolie’s the designer is “the one who understands her body the most.”

Heidi Klum attempts the Angelina leg. Does she succeed?
See the photo evidence up close
It all started with a leg, an Atelier Versace gown and a pose on the Academy Awards red carpet. Oh, and the rest of Angelina Jolie was there as well.
Jolie’s right leg jutted out to the side from underneath a lengthy slit as she presented awards and posed for photos. Her limb instantly became a meme and has a Twitter account, which has 43,000 followers.
