Paint your nails like Hannah, Marnie, Shoshanna and Jessa: Deborah Lippmann is doing a Girls nail polish collection
Our obsession with HBO’s hit series Girls knows no bounds. And now we can further show our support-slash-solidarity for the four twenty-something characters thanks to a nail polish collaboration with Deborah Lippmann.
A four-colour, limited edition Deborah Lippmann Girls nail polish set was just announced and will launch in January 2013. Representative of the four Girls girls, the set includes a colour named for each: there’s “Hannah” (described as a “hapless hunter green”), “Marnie” (a “prim and proper pink”), “Shoshanna” (a “virtuous vivid violet”) and “Jessa” (a “bohemian burgundy”).

Lena Dunham and Zooey Deschanel are no longer nail art BFFs (But Zooey’s Emmys manicure is still adorable!)
Despite Lena Dunham and Zooey Deschanel talking and tweeting about coordinating their nail art for the 2012 Emmys, it seems the two didn’t actually follow through with their matching manicure plans. Even though Lena Dunham kept her Emmy awards nails simple, she did stay on trend with her colour choice, opting for Deborah Lippmann’s natual-looking “Fashion” nail polish. The taupe shade complemented her Prada gown and kept the focus on her makeup. And we have to say: Lena Dunham does a dramatic blue smoky eye well. (It’s very Chanel Couture Spring 2012, no?)
Zooey Deschanel did, however, show up on the red carpet with an impressive sparkly nail art design, complete with glittering mini TVs on her thumbs and Swarovski crystals overtop a pale orange polish across all other fingers.

Holt Renfrew celebrates 175 years with specially-designed pieces from Christian Louboutin, Bobbi Brown, Michael Kors and a special appearance by Elton John!
See all the anniversary pieces! »
We might as well pitch a tent and set up camp outside Holt Renfrew’s sleek Bloor Street entrance, because come September, it will be the place to be. Not only is Holt’s taking part in Fashion’s Night Out festivities September 6 (stay tuned for details!), but the store is also ringing in it’s monumental 175th birthday. In true Holt’s fashion, the Hot @175 anniversary will be rung in in style, with a slew of designer collaborations for sale in (what else?) signature magenta.
From its start in 1837 as a hat and cap shop in Quebec City to the go-to luxury mecca it is today, Holt’s has undeniably had a starring role in Canada’s retail legacy. To fête the occasion, everything from high-fashion designs like Christian Louboutin’s magenta-platform sling backs to fun finds like Pantone’s “Holt Renfrew Magenta” notebook will prove that even at 175, Holt’s still has it.

What’s in your bag, Amina Said?
If you haven’t yet heard about the new Canadian ecomm site Dealuxe.ca, you’re about to hear a lot more about it from now on, because newly on board as the site’s PR and social media manager is one of our favourite girls about town, Amina Said. By favourite, we mean we’re obsessed. Said’s got more style in her bejeweled baby finger than many have got in their whole bod. She’s also beautiful, funny, and… did we say we were obsessed? Anyways, here’s a peek into her bag. You’ll probably be obsessed too.

It’s all about the burgundy manicure for fall. Plus: How to do Ruffian’s red and gold foil nails!
See our behind-the-scenes gallery from Ruffian »
Learn how to do the gold foil mani! »In the final days of Toronto Fashion Week, one thing was starting to become very apparent: deep red nails are going to be huge for fall. Chloé Comme Parris and Pink Tartan both used the same maroon Essie shade—“Wicked”—and similar colours had been popping up at international shows all season, including Ferragamo, Jenny Packham and Bill Blass. Rachel Roy leaned towards an aubergine-tinted red, while Yigal Azrouel dubbed his shade of choice “pinot noir.” At L.A.M.B., burgundy polish covered just the moon, leaving the rest of the nail bare. And where red appears, gold seems to follow: the Toronto shows for Jeremy Laing and Ruffian paired both colours on the same nail, whereas Marchesa alternated all-burgundy (Deborah Lippmann’s “Single Ladies”) and all-gold manicures down the runway.

Nail Corner: LFW edition! A vibrant manicure inspired by Erdem’s Fall 2012 prints
A few hours after the Erdem show ended on Monday, pictures of the lacy, camouflage-esque floral print started popping up across Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. It’s always interesting to see which elements of a collection achieve viral (for lack of a better word) status on social media sites and go on to become ubiquitous within months—Miu Miu’s swallows, anyone? So, in effort to start canonizing Erdem’s vibrant print, I took the Fall 2012 design to my nails.

Nail Corner: NYFW edition! The Rachel Antonoff Fall 2012 floral moon manicure
It took less than a split second for me to fall in love with the manicures at Rachel Antonoff’s Fall 2012 presentation. CND tweeted a close-up of the design—which was created to mimic the printed flowers found throughout the collection—and I was hooked. It looks like a cross between a hibiscus and a lotus: wide petals that extend up from the moon of your nail and into a bright-red background. And once you sort out what colours to use it’s an extremely fun design to paint.

There’s a new nail polish made almost entirely from gold. (But wait ’til you see how much it costs!)
Performers don’t need to worry about leaving this weekend’s Grammy Awards without taking home the gold—because along with the usual gift bag of luxe products, they’ll receive a nail polish made almost entirely from 24k gold! Created by at-home gel polish company Red Carpet Manicure, “Amor 24” contains more than an ounce of gold in every bottle. It’s sure to be a hit with singers like Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, who have all mastered the art of intricate manicures.

Nail Corner: Brighten up a cloudy winter day with this snow globe manicure
At some point this week it actually snowed in Toronto—huge fluffy flakes!—and the snow globe-like atmosphere instantly became Nail Corner inspiration. I’ve been dreaming of opaque white glitter for a few months now, but after going down a rabbit hole of searching for such a polish, it seems it’s a mix that’s nearly impossible to acquire. So nail art, paired with two of my all-time-favourite glitters, seemed like an appropriate substitute. (For now, that is!)

Nail Corner: 2 colourful ways to update the French manicure with purple chevrons and orange hearts
Ah, the French manicure. Is there a beauty technique that’s more divisive? While there’s no denying that when done well and in moderation it’s a flattering look, its reputation has been tarnished by aggressive acrylics and—shudder—the growing popularity of French pedicures. So bring on the reinvention! This week we’re exploring new approaches to painting the tips of your nails. By changing up the colour and the shape, you’ll still achieve the optical illusion of longer nails—without the dated look of a conventional French mani.
