Fall 2014 Couture week has officially wrapped in Paris, and we’ve been daydreaming of the Pinterest-worthy dresses ever since. Thanks to celebrities and some very lucky street style stars, we can get a glimpse of couture in all its high-fashion glory. But before you raise your white flag and think couture is only for the elites, we’d like to let you know that you too can get on the action. How? Your first time at any international fashion week will teach you a valuable lesson: You need a fur. And not just any Margot Tenenbaum style granny hand-me-down. A fur so intricately patterned, multi-layered and artificially coloured, that it has to be designer. Given its place at the apex of the top Fall 2014 trends, you’d think recessionary times were long gone—it’s virtually everywhere, from a hyper colour mink at Altuzarra to a fluffy red dress at Prada. Wear it with caution or as Dior prescribes, dangle it over your arm like it’s no big d. Let the fur fly, scruples or otherwise.

Paris Fashion Week: The two prints dominating the Fall 2014 shows
See the latest from Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014 »
There is tons of talk about fabric this season. Thick chunky knits are everywhere at Paris Fashion Week, with the knit pant quickly becoming a key piece for Fall 2014. Rich velvets in romantic shades of burgundy to soft rose have been spotted at Nina Ricci and Elie Saab. Sheer silk chiffons have revealed everything from legs and backs to arms and décolletage, and lace is cropping up in nearly every collection as a full-on feature or a just hint of sex appeal. But what are designers doing with those fabrics to keep them feeling fresh? Lets take a minute to examine the prints story. It seems as though designers are divided into two different camps: the florals and the optic prints.

Critics’ Choice Awards 2014: Our top 10 red carpet picks
See the Critics Choice Awards 2014 Red Carpet photos »
Awards season is underway and it seems that every other night there is a star-studded gala, benefit or awards show to ogle. We’re not complaining. Last night, it was the Critics’ Choice Awards in Santa Monica, and our favourite celebs didn’t disappoint on the red carpet. A mix of new faces and fashion vets make up our best dressed list keeping things fresh with pops of colour and new silhouettes.
Breakout Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie was a certified babe in a black lace-trimmed jumpsuit from red carpet favourite Elie Saab’s Spring 2014 collection. Pants are still considered unconventional on the red carpet, but this Aussie killed. On the flip side, 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o went with a stunning white cut-out Calvin Klein Collection dress and clutch, later accessorized with the award for Best Supporting Actress. Team Lupita FTW.
Some of our favourite faces shone on the red carpet in a pleasant colour array. Meryl Streep went for a bedazzled navy blue Stella McCartney dress, while Best Actress in a Drama winner Sandra Bullock opted for a rich burgundy custom Lanvin dress, which she finished off with a classic Roger Vivier buckle clutch and Fred Leighton jewels. Both Oprah Winfrey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus showed how to work green in their own unique way—the Queen of talk shows in a cinched dark green Azzedine Alaïa gown and Dreyfus in a Reem Acra knee-length cocktail dress.

Anna Kendrick vs. Nina Dobrev: Who wore Elie Saab best on the red carpet?
Elie Saab was a red carpet favourite this past weekend, with stars from coast to coast favouring colourful numbers from the Lebanese designer. It was hard to miss Anna Kendrick and Nina Dobrev and their stunning looks deserve a closer look—as well as a vote for who wore Elie Saab best.
On the east coast, Anna Kendrick attended the 36th Kennedy Center Honors Gala in Washington, D.C. She wore a lace-paneled Elie Saab dress from the pre-Fall 2013 collection in a vibrant shade of coral. A neutral lining kept the sheer panels from being too revealing—a good thing to consider when you’re attending an event with the Obamas. Kendrick accessorized with a shimmering brown Rauwolf clutch that matched her flowing curls, while a tangerine lip completed the complementary beauty look.

Taylor Swift plays double duty over the weekend in two beautiful cocktail dresses
Taylor Swift was one busy girl this past weekend, as she hopped from honour to the next. And just as she doesn’t disappoint in the star quality department, neither did she with wardrobe.
To accept the Songwriter/Artist of the year award (her sixth so far!) presented by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, the star upped the sparkle factor with a shimmering sheath dress by label Houghton. The dress showed off her long gams while her silver Christian Louboutin sandals were the right amount of shine to complement it. For beauty, Swift kept to bold lashes and eyeliner for both looks but opted for a rarely seen pink lip for her sparkly outfit.
At the unveiling of the Taylor Swift Education Centre in Nashville, she showed up in an LDB to play the part of charming ribbon cutter. The modest knee length Elie Saab dress featured a sheer paneled neckline and an A-line flared skirt. Adding burgundy Miu Miu heels maintained the demure look that was completed with a red pout like only Swift can pull off.
Which look do you like best?

TIFF 2013: Olivia Wilde, Chris Hemsworth and a surprise appearance by Liam Hemsworth on the Rush red carpet
See the Rush red carpet photos »
Are we seeing triple or was that the entire Hemsworth family on the Rush red carpet last night at TIFF? Star Chris Hemsworth was joined by his actor brothers Luke Hemsworth and Miley’s on-again-off-again fiancé Liam Hemsworth (whose scruffy beard has us thoroughly divided). While Chris wore a three-piece Gucci checked suit and deep burgundy tie, his brothers took care not to show him up in simpler grey looks. Also present, was the Rush star’s wife Elsa Pataky who was looking super haute in a white embellished Elie Saab Fall 2013 gown.

Venice Film Festival 2013: Our top 10 best dressed from the first week of red carpets, parties and photo calls
See the Venice Film Festival 2013 images »
It’s only a week into the 70th annual Venice Film Festival and the stars are bringing their sartorial A-game. To help us keep track of the endless red carpet premieres, photo-calls and press conferences, we’re rounding it up with 10 of our favourite fashion looks so far. With TIFF coming up this week, we’re getting a good idea of what the celebrities are bringing to the red carpet and let’s just say, we’re not worried at all.
We’re used to seeing Sandra Bullock playing it safe with monochromatic tones on the red carpet, and so it was a breath of fresh air to see the Oscar-winning actress in two colourful ensembles last week. Arriving in style, Bullock wore a colourblock dress by Alex Perry and Giuseppe Zanotti heels at the photo call for her film Gravity. Later in the evening, she left us speechless at the opening ceremony in a red strapless silk gown by J. Mendel from the Resort 2014 collection as she completed the outfit with Martin Katz jewellery and Roger Vivier black clutch and ankle-strap sandals.

Behind the scenes at Tanya Taylor’s wedding: From her haute couture wedding gown to the tropical paradise venue
See all the details, including Taylor’s Elie Saab couture dress »
As someone who didn’t grow up fantasizing about her big day, Tanya Taylor’s recent walk down the aisle had all the makings of a modern fairytale. The 27-year-old Toronto-born, New York-based designer—who recently showed her Fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection in both cities, earning high praise from editors and buyers alike—spent a year and a half ensuring that her April 20 destination wedding would be as stylish and personal as the clothes she creates. The idyllic locale—the luxe Sandy Lane resort in Barbados—certainly didn’t hurt, nor did the romantic nature of the groom, business development manager Michel Pratte. He proposed to Taylor, after a 10-year on-and-off courtship, with a poem and a spectacular antique ring—an 1890s old-mine-cut diamond in a 1920s art deco setting—that had caught her eye months earlier at an estate jewellery boutique. So far, so dreamy.
Then there was her magical dress: an intricately embellished cloud of white organza by ready-to-wear designer and couturier Elie Saab, based on a showstopper from his Fall 2012 haute couture show in Paris.
