Oscars 2014: Neutral makeup and pushed-back hair top the best beauty statements from the red carpet
See all the beauty looks from the 2014 Oscars »
Simplicity was key when it came to hair and makeup at the 2014 Oscars. Natural texture, neutral makeup and glowing skin made for the biggest beauty statements of the night, with just a few punchy lip colours and smoky eyes appearing on the red carpet.
For hair, the trend of the night was a tie between the deep side part and no part at all. Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Portia de Rossi, Naomi Watts and Lupita Nyong’o were just a few of the stars to opt for the pushed-back look, keeping hair off their faces. For Lawrence, her finger-combed, almost-bouffant gave a grown-up feel to her fresh pixie cut while still being a hairstyle that wasn’t overly fussy. Adams had one of the more structured hairstyles on the Oscars red carpet, but the slight bump at the front of her very-lacquered updo gave it playful appeal, while Watts’ Grace Kelly-inspired hair made us want to run our fingers through our own throughout the night. Rounding out the pushed-back looks was Nyong’o, who wore a delicate headband that anchored her dramatic style.

Emma Watson at the Golden Globes: Inside her red carpet and after party looks
Whether she’s chopping her locks or wearing Brit-designed mix prints, Emma Watson has become one of our favourite Hollywood risk takers. Her style evolution from awkward teen to slick ingénue was never more present than at last night’s Golden Globe awards, where she wowed the crowd with a Christian Dior dress-over-skirt combo on the red carpet. From the front, Watson’s dress appeared demure—a short-sleeved dress with a high slit. From the back, it revealed cropped cigarette trousers, which she paired with Dior earrings and violet cross-strapped Roger Vivier pumps.

Golden Globes 2014: Burnt-berry lips and tight-lined eyes were the top red carpet beauty trends
See the best beauty trends from the 2014 Golden Globes »
The Golden Globes may be considered a red carpet test-run for the Oscars, but when it comes to beauty, it’s when A-listers tend to go all out. For the 2014 Golden Globes, it was all about bright lip colours and dramatic eye looks. The classic Old Hollywood red lip was ditched in favour of burnt shades of berry and orange. Jennifer Lawrence wore an almost-goth burgundy lip while Lupita Nyong’o added a metallic hit to her dark lipstick shade with a tinge of gold shimmer.
Of course, not everyone went dark: Both Zoe Saldana and Zooey Deschanel opted for a brighter take on the red carpet trend with perfect burnt orange-red pouts. Elisabeth Moss’s lipstick was a stand-out berry colour, just a few shades lighter than the purple hits in her shimmering J. Mendel gown—perhaps berry’s the official colour of award winners, as Cate Blanchette was also wearing it on her lips.

The A-list came out swinging on the Golden Globes 2014 red carpet, with everyone from Meryl to Leo making an appearance. As the unofficial precursor to the Oscars, the Globes was home to some season-setting style statements. Most strikingly, rising 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o had her career-making moment in a breathtaking red cape Ralph Lauren dress a la Gwyneth in 2012. Also in red, Amy Adams channeled her award winning American Hustle role in a cleavage-baring Valentino gown. Emma Watson wore red most adventurously as a Dior dress overtop cigarette pants, proving there are still creative ways to do red carpet.
Baby bumps were everywhere at Golden Globes 2014, with Hollywood’s latest pregnancy wave hitting the red carpet in a big way (no pun intended). Kerry Washington made a sleek statement in grey Balenciaga, while Olivia Wilde went head-to-toe glitter in green Gucci and Drew Barrymore wore a pretty Monique Lhuillier dress.
Dior devout Jennifer Lawrence split the critics, receiving part love part hate for her strapless white gown with black straps.
What do you think? Who wore it best on the Golden Globes 2014 red carpet?

Here, we take a look back at the year in cinematic fashion and count down the 9 best fashion on film moments of 2013. There were plenty to choose from:

The 66th annual Cannes Film Festival is underway and the never-ending parade of red carpet dresses certainly makes it one of the top sartorial events of the year. As a twelve-day film festival that hosts multiple parties, photo calls and premieres each day, A-list stars and international icons bringing their best looks to the French Riviera. To help keep track, we’re rounding up the top looks from the Cannes 2013 red carpet so far—and we’ll keep adding more as the festival continues.
Arguably the most anticipated movie of the year, The Great Gatsby, had its European premiere at Cannes last week—and the red carpet was filled with outfits just as glamourous as the film itself, including Cara Delevingne’s sultry Burberry laced ensemble and Carey Mulligan’s Dior Couture gown.
Meanwhile, Emma Watson turned heads last week at the premiere of her latest film, The Bling Ring, in a stunning Chanel gown. Earlier in the day, the wizard-turned-fame-obsessed-teen (that is, on screen!) showed off an equally stunning burgundy ensemble by Christopher Kane.

It’s the second day of the Cannes Film Festival and the glamour continues on the red carpet with the premiere of Sofia Coppola’s film The Bling Ring. Though Emma Watson does not play the main character of the film, she definitely took centre stage turning heads today at her first Cannes 2013 event. Donning two different outfits for day and night, the Brit actress effortlessly pulls off both her looks.
At The Bling Ring photo call earlier today, Emma Watson, who showed no signs of her alter ego Nicki, wore a burgundy outfit by Christopher Kane, which consisted of a burgundy crop top with feather trimmings and a matching skirt from Kane’s Fall 2013 collection. Watson showcased her natural beauty by keeping her makeup at a minimal and hair tied back in a neat bun. She finished off the look with a pair of sky-high black suede stilettos.

Met Gala 2013: The 25 best dressed on fashion’s most important red carpet
See the Met Gala 2013 red carpet photos »
The build up to this year’s Met Gala has been major. Designers, celebrities and the fashion elite have been scrambling to piece together a look that fits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s theme, PUNK: Chaos to Couture and while admittedly, the punk-inspired looks were few and far between, we were certainly thrilled with a few.
Channeling her own recent V Magazine cover, Miley Cyrus went latter day Debbie Harry with platinum blonde spikes and a long fishnet Marc Jacobs dress. Anne Hathaway debuted a similarly bleached bob alongside her date and dresser for the night, Valentino Garavani, sending the twittersphere in a tizzy.
Co-chairs of the event Riccardo Tisci and Rooney Mara went punk-light with Mara in a beautifully detailed white lace Givenchy dress and a pop of crimson on the lips.
Also wearing Givenchy was none other than Beyoncé—the honourary chairperson for this year’s event. Pairing her custom-designed strapless black and gold printed gown with blinged out boots in the same shade, Queen Bey proved for her second year in a row that last on the red carpet is always best.
After finally receiving the Anna Wintour nod of approval, Kim Kardashian made an appearance at the Met Gala 2013 in a floral-print Givenchy dress with baby-daddy, Kanye West at her side.
Someone who is more known for consistently nailing red carpet looks than Kimye, is Emma Watson and she hit a high note yet again in a skin-bearing Prabal Gurung dress with a single silver drop earring hanging from her left ear.
And while Kristen Stewart has held fast to her role as the face of Balenciaga’s Florabotanica, she strayed from the house’s new wears, opting instead, for a crimson Stella McCartney pantsuit.
So who was the best dressed at the Met Gala 2013? Vote in our poll!

Exclusive: Emma Watson talks about posing with Lancôme and and pole-dancing for Sofia Coppola
See 3 new Lancôme Gloss in Love shades »
When you’re Emma Watson, a simple trip to the hair salon turns into headlines and blog posts the world over. “There was a time when people only ever wanted to ask about my haircut,” she says. “That was a big deal for a while. But increasingly now I’m getting asked about the work I’m doing, which is really nice because people are genuinely interested.” This is probably because Watson is genuinely interesting. The 22-year-old Oxford University English student who leapt to the world’s attention as Hogwarts’ brightest half-muggle, Hermione, has managed to graduate from the blockbuster Harry Potter series into a string of intriguing independent films, including The Perks of Being a Wallflower and this summer’s Sofia Coppola-directed The Bling Ring.
Although she says she’s not the “sort of person who likes posing,” Watson has also lent her intelligent gaze and elfin features to ad campaigns, first for Burberry and now for Lancôme. “I’ve wanted to work with her for many years, but I didn’t want somebody too young to be [the face of] the brand,” says Youcef Nabi, president of Lancôme International. “I don’t want people to feel that they need to put on makeup very early.” Once Watson matured beyond Potter, the matter was broached, and a connection became apparent between the English actress and the French beauty company.

MTV Movie Awards 2013: Our 6 picks for best dressed on the red carpet
See the MTV Movie Awards red carpet photos »
Last night, some of our favourite young starlets and celebrities hit the red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards where they handed out and were awarded 2013’s batch of golden popcorn statues for their important work as “best villain” and “best kiss.”
As with most red carpets that are skewed towards teens, there were some major misses by so many “stars” we have never actually heard of, but we will skip those in favour of those who hit it out of the park. MTV’s House of Style host Karlie Kloss looked like a smokeshow in a two-piece Cushnie and Ochs ensemble. The white-hot bodycon ensemble was finished off with a pair of Gucci heels. To boot, her new-to-2013 cropped bob was looking superb with an accentuated part. Zoe Saldana also showed off some skin in a Givenchy Fall 2013 (hell yes to friends in high places) look that matched florals with sheer polka dots and a thigh-high slit.
Chloe Grace Moretz was a denim dream in a patchwork Louis Vuitton dress and studded T-strap heels. She kept her beauty on the simple and age-appropriate side with a messy waterfall of curls and fresh faced skin. On the complete flip side, simple was not the name of the game for Selena Gomez who wore an embellished Julien Macdonald mini dress with a bouffant that transitioned into a side-braid.

People’s Choice Awards 2013: See who made our list of best dressed on the red carpet and vote for your favourite

The People’s Choice Awards marked the beginning of awards season last night, giving us 2013’s first round of red carpet looks to feast our eyes on. With a more relaxed dress code than some of the upcoming awards shows, last night’s event allowed Hollywood’s bright young things to experiment with short silhouettes, bright hues, mixed prints and even designer names. To our pleasant surprise, up and coming Brit designers Peter Pilotto and Simone Rocha both made appearances on Emma Watson and Chloe Grace Moretz respectively. 15-year-old Moretz, who is fast becoming a style icon in her own right, brightened up the red carpet in neon yellow alongside Lea Michele who wore a sequined pink mini-dress by Elie Saab.
Amidst all the color, classic black and white also had its moment. Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence selected an elegant LBD by Valentino. Newly single Taylor Swift stuck with her signature drop-dead-gorgeous gowns, wearing a dramatic white Ralph Lauren dress.
