Gap acquires Intermix: Is this a match made in retail heaven?
Gap Inc. is buying multi-store luxury boutique Intermix to the tune of $130 million, according to Women’s Wear Daily. The two companies have been in talks for at least a month; with Intermix looking to expand it’s reach and Gap looking for an opening in the luxury market.
The pairing will likely be beneficial for both companies. Gap will be upping its fashion credibility by investing in a highly fashionable store. Intermix will have a major retailer behind it, with the resources and expertise to potentially grow worldwide. Word is that Gap plans to expand Intermix overseas as well as doubling the store count. Intermix currently has one store in Canada (located at 130 Bloor St. West in Toronto), but we’re hoping that this partnership could lead to more stores across Canada.

Escada to show in Toronto for one night only
Jeanne Beker averages one fashion fundraiser a week (that’s a lot), and tomorrow, she will take her place as the host of Zareinu’s ninth annual fashion show for “one of the most inspiring things that I get to do every year”.
The fundraiser benefits the Zareinu Educational Centre—a treatment centre for children with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy to down syndrome and other developmental challenges—and don’t expect a dry eye to be in the room. According to Canadian fashion icon, Jeanne Beker, “When you see the kids from the school walk out on that runway—I can’t tell you what it does to you. Your heart swells with so much joy and inspiration and these kids are real fighters.”
This year’s event features the resort collection from international luxury brand, Escada. It’s the first time the collection will be shown in Canada, and alongside the high fashion designs will as many as 30 children from the Zareinu Educational Centre walking the runway in Gap Kids with therapists and teachers from the centre.

Christmas Luxury Gifts: 75 fashion trend-inspired items to thrill the stylish ladies on your list
See all the Christmas luxury gifts »
Holiday shopping for the men and women in your life that have exquisite tastes can be a tricky task. But by taking hints from the Fall 2012 runways, shopping for Christmas luxury gifts can be managed a lot easier. We’ve compiled a list of luxury gift ideas just in time for the holiday season to be upon us.
Geometric prints were one of the biggest trends that came down runways for Fall 2012, so impress a lucky lady in your life by honing your Prada knowledge by choosing a luxury gift that is reminiscent of the brand’s fall collection. Or how about looking to the East for Asian-inspired prints in a shoe from Aldo or beauty travel case from Salvatore Ferragamo—both of which wouldn’t look out of place on the Proenza Schouler Fall 2012 runway.
Christmas luxury gifts can come in all shapes and sizes, but it all depends on the giftee’s personal style and tastes. That being said, a fan of Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2012 collection may not appreciate a D.L. & Co. skull candle; so choose your luxury gifts based on his or her sartorial favorites.
The influence of fashion on the gifts featured in our Christmas luxury gift guide will ease you into checking off the stylish family and friends in your life when doing your shopping this holiday season.

Gap Holiday Campaign 2012: Michael J. Fox, Aubrey Plaza, Rufus Wainwright and others showcase that love comes in every shade (of cozy knits)
Check out all the images from the Gap holiday 2012 campaign »
It isn’t a true holiday season until you’re bundled in cozy knit mittens, toques and layered sweaters. Or at least, that’s what the latest Gap holiday campaign 2012 proves to us. In keeping with the tradition of having A+ holiday ads (remember the year of Love Train?) the American company has taken portraits of celebrities in colourful knitted goods.
The campaign is titled “Love Comes in Every Shade” and aims to show a-typical relationships and the many forms of love ranging from puppy love, best friend love and even regular ole romantic love. From rapper Nas in a puffy vest with his dad showing off fatherly love to Rufus Wainwright in khakis alongside his husband Jörn Weisbrodt being the example of wedded bliss.

Heading to the Queen’s Plate horse race this weekend? Here are 5 winning picks for what to wear
Photography courtesy of Woodbine Entertainment They’re at the post! Sunday marks the 153rd running of the Queen’s Plate horse race, the first of three races in Canada’s Triple Crown stakes. Basically, it’s our version of the Kentucky Derby but with regal roots: Queen Victoria founded the race in 1860 and members of the royal family have attended over a dozen times. Unfortunately, Queen Elizabeth won’t be cheering from the stands this weekend (she’s a little busy with her Diamond Jubilee celebrations) but that doesn’t make the day any less prestigious.
Which brings us to the question of what to wear? The all-day festivities require an outfit that will take you from the garden party in the walking ring to cheering in the sun-drenched grandstands. We may not have a Chanel-owned racehorse running, but our bets are on Sunday being quite the to-do. As such, here are our top picks for what to wear. (Also, we’ll put in our official request now for Will and Kate to attend next year!)

Cost per wear: 10 fully styled affordable outfits that make a pricey PS1 a totally reasonable purchase!
Photography by Carlo Mendoza. Modeled by Marta/Ford Models. On-figure styling by Richard Autio. Hair and makeup by Margot Keith. This one is for all you designer diehards out there—the ones who would risk their rent on the latest Riccardo Tisci masterpiece. You know what it’s like to go without the many, only to behold the fashionable few. But how do you justify that one outlandish designer purchase? We’re here to help. We’ve done the math, and come up with enough affordable outfits to justify that one gotta-have-it-now item.
Case in point: Proenza Schouler’s latest PS1. Despite the designers’ intention to create just the opposite, Jack and Laz created a beast of a must-have in the classic style back in ’08, and its Spring 2012 iteration has us seeing stars (or rather, tropical flowers). At a cool $1,125 for the Pochette model, we figure you’ve gotta wear this guy quite a few times to make it work, and being bright yellow, that ain’t an easy feat. Working out to just under $113 a wear, we’ve styled 10 full and unique looks on Marta that make the PS1 proud.
Have a peek. Foam at the mouth. And then be happy that no other single item in the gallery costs anywhere close to $1,125.
