Rudsak Fall 2014: The brand celebrates 20th anniversary with Harley Viera-Newton in tow

By Laura Zechel
When classic guitar opens a runway show, it’s pretty obvious that rock ‘n’ roll inspired looks are about to come next. Such was the case at Thursday night’s Rudsak Fall 2014 presentation, which helped celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary with signature edge. Featuring a 51-look onslaught of crop ribbed moto jackets in black, bordeaux and green, skin-tight metallic leather minis and lace tights, the collection looks were accented by Anna Karenina-worthy Russian fur hats to imply a luxe element.
Staying true to Rudsak’s rebellious aesthetic, badass leather outerwear reigned alongside longer, warmer hooded pieces. Standouts included a voluminous black coat rimmed with leather and long, flow-y fur and slick, branded guitar cases and backpacks. That, and of course, its finale IRL rockstar: model/DJ Harley Viera-Newton, who closed the show.

See the biggest Fall 2013 fashion trends »
See all our fashion month coverage »Fashion month may have finally wrapped, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to forget about the trends that emerged for Fall 2013 on the many runways of New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto—In fact, it’s time for them to take front and centre. While shoppers everywhere are snapping up the best of the selling floor’s offerings for spring and summer, designers, buyers and editors alike are busy prepping ahead. And since we know y’all like to keep ahead of the curve, we’ve sorted through hundreds of photos and selected 10 of the top Fall 2013 trends so that you can mentally prep (and save) too!
Next season, it’s all about fur, which landed in both faux and real on runways including Marni, JW Anderson, and most strikingly at Fendi, where it was combined in a dizzying multitude of punky ways. The 1990s were back for another resurgence, continuing Spring 2013’s grunge trend at Saint Laurent in Paris and Chloé Comme Parris right here at home. On the street, the look was easily created by many fashion week attendees who layered plaids on waists, under jackets and even on tights. And while practically speaking, it may be no major surprise that outerwear was one of the top Fall 2013 trends, this show season we saw jackets take on new forms with quilting, oversized shapes and bold colours which were mirrored outside the shows, with equally interesting choices hitting the pavement
Here are 100 images to help jog your memory of the top Fall 2013 trends spotted inside and outside of the fashion week stents, so sit back, click through, and relive the fashion month in all its street style and runway glory.

Trying to find footwear that protects you from the weather usually means a major style compromise. After all, when you’re wearing the same pair of boots all day, it’s important that you are able to withstand the elements outdoors while still looking great indoors.
To help, we’ve selected some amazing winter boots for you to wear these last few wintery months. With these options, you won’t have to choose between keeping warm and looking great.

Big calves? No problem! 10 slick fall boot picks that don’t discriminate
If you have a larger calf, it can be daunting to find on-trend quality knee boots that actually fit. We loved all the colours and textures we saw in the September issues, and we think that a larger calf shouldn’t relegate you to ankle boots when the cooler temperatures hit—particularly since tall boots are a big trend this fall. We did some legwork (pun intended), and rounded up stylish boot options that accommodate women with calves that are 15 inches or thicker. From jewel tones to textures and embossed skins, we’ve got ten stylish picks for all you ladies with larger legs.

Montreal shop notes: Rock the coat
Staying warm during winter without sacrificing style is a veritable art for cold-weather warriors in Montreal. What’s on my outerwear radar this month? Local lines Mackage, Soïa & Kyo, Moose Knuckles (think chic puffers) and Rud, the new collection by Rudsak (rudbyrudsak.com).

Our 5 best (Gaultier-less) bets for Festival Mode & Design Montreal
The lineup for the outdoor extravaganza Festival Mode & Design Montreal, starting today and running through August 6th, is sure to be a circus of amazing events. And while tonight’s big fashion buzz surrounds Jean Paul Gaultier‘s ready-to-wear show, I’m also in a tizzy over all the local talent.
To really discover the backbone of Montreal street style, here are my five must-see shows that highlight local talent.
1. Montreal Fashion Week highlights
August 3 at 9 p.m.In case you missed Semaine de la Mode last February, you can see all the fall and winter 2011/12 looks on one stage–and then go shop their looks, which should all be in-store by now. The models are some of Quebec’s most beloved stars, including Francisco Randez, who is the face of JPG’s fragrance, Le Male. Look for my coups de coeur: the sexy femme style of Barilà, avant-garde Denis Gagnon, glittery baubles by Micalla, and Mulcair’s tailored tomboy chic. Also part of the show is the dress by Kwantlen University student Earl Mabaquiao that won the Télio contest. I had the honour of wearing his dress to a posh event this past spring. (Thank you, Earl!)
