Q&A: Michael Kors looks back at his 30-year career—the trends, the tears, and the trunk shows
Michael Kors on celebrating his 30th anniversary, staying plugged in and becoming an adjective.
All-American. Spirited. Jetsetter. You can spot Michael Kors from a mile away. Over the course of his 30 years in the fashion industry, the man and the brand have become one and the same, morphing into a mega-empire that, as rumour has it, hit a billion dollars in sales this year. Not bad for a boy from Long Island, New York. Adored by Hollywood A-listers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez, soccer moms and First Ladies alike (Michelle Obama wore Kors for her first official White House portrait), his rise to fashion royalty took off in 1981, when he launched his eponymous womenswear line.

Celeb poll: Who was best dressed at TIFF?
Praise the red carpet gods! The stars really pulled out all the stops this year at TIFF, which was great to see, given some years’ lackluster outings. Lace, length, and print were big trends this year, and so were megawatt designers, from Marisa Tomei‘s Proenza Schouler, to Madonna‘s Tom Ford, to Elizabeth Olsen‘s Erdem. They’re all big winners in our eyes, but if you HAD to choose, who would be your favourite? Vote after the jump!

TIFF red carpet: What do you think of Brangelina’s black-on-black matching outfits?
Okay, so maybe they’re not twins, but we can’t help but think that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt planned their back-to-black outfits together. Angie, in an asymmetrical satin Vivienne Westwood gown, a Louis Vuitton clutch, and jewellery of her own design (what!?!), and Brad in well… scruff, at last night’s Moneyball premiere look like two peas in one expensive, slightly Addams Family–esque pod. And we s’pose they should.

Celeb poll: Vote for your favourite Golden Globes look!
Colour was everywhere on last night’s Golden Globes red carpet. So much so, that we are seriously considering a mid-winter makeover. From the emerald green worn by Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Moss and Mila Kunis to the shades of bubblegum on Claire Danes, Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, the spectrum was covered at every point.
This year, it also seemed that the ball gown was eschewed – with the exception of a few knockout odes from Catherine Zeta-Jones and Olivia Wilde – for the sleek and sexy cutout lines on Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and January Jones.
Between all of these visual delights, who do you think did it the best? View the full looks after the jump!

Fashion news: Evan Rachel Wood’s futuristic Gucci spot, McQueen rugs, and Snooki is a vessel for competitor sabotage
Check out Gucci’s super future-y ad for their new fragrance Guilty, featuring Evan Rachel Wood. On a gossip-ier note, apparently the 22-year-old just split with fiance Marilyn Manson (again). [Racked and Huffington Post]
Taylor Momsen ran her mouth the other day in an interview with Spin Magazine. “People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred. Now Rihanna‘s wearing f—–‘ leather jackets, and it’s really annoying.” Taylor will most likely regret this next time she finds herself encountering Rihanna in a dark alley. Those leather jackets have spikes. [Huffington Post]

Fashion news: U.S. introduces design piracy bill, Glee star doesn’t steal dresses and people still talking about Shiloh’s hair
Footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood is designing two styles for London label Peter Pilotto, set to debut at London Fashion Week. Though Kirkwood has designed shoes for design duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos for the past two seasons, this is the first time the world at large will be able to get their hands on the collaboration. [WWD]
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer has introduced a bill that would seek to protect fashion designers from infringement. The Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act is supported by the CFDA. If the bill passes, those seeking damages “must show that his design provides “a unique, distinguishable, non-trivial and non-utilitarian variation over prior designs” and show that the copy is nearly indistinguishable from the original. Check out the behind the scenes of the Louis Vuitton Fall ad campaign. [Youtube]After being in the news for looking surprisingly thin in recent photos, Crystal Renn‘s agent asserted she was still a “solid size 10.” She’s been hiking a lot lately, perhaps explaining why she looks so toned. Fashion news: Models apparently petitioning for food at TFW, Richemont buys Net-a-Porter and Matthew Williamson + Blair Waldorf
Everyone’s hungry at Toronto Fashion Week. Models are apparently circulating with a petition to get some well-earned backstage grub. (They’re usually in back-to-back shows with no time for the trek to not-very-nearby eats.) Jeanne Beker tweeted last night: “3 models just came up to me and asked me to sign a petition requesting that the FDCC provide food backstage for models!” Catwalker Addison Gill also took to Twitter to implore us to sign on. [@Jeanne_Beker, @AddisonGill] Update: More on this a Modelresource.ca.
Addison Gill was also giving Olympic bronze medalist Joannie Rochette modelling tips before her turns in the Heart Truth and Attitude shows. [@AddisonGill]
It’s a done deal: Swiss luxury group Richemont, the world’s largest jewelry maker, has bought out the remaining 67% of Net-a- Porter for $343 million. Founder Natalie Massenet will remain executive chairman. [Business Week via Racked]

Fashion news: Zero doing mens, LiLo doing Bebe and smell like dead-celeb DNA
Maria Cornejo is working on a menswear collection to be launched this spring. The four unisex looks shown at the Spring 2010 Zero + Maria Cornejo show received such a great response that the designer has expanded the lineup. The clothes are set to appear in stores January 15. [The Cut]
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have designed a jewellery collection called The Protector for Asprey. The line features snake-themed necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings in gold and silver. The snake coil jewellery was inspired by a ring worn by Jolie while pregnant with Shiloh that’s since become a symbol of protection to the couple. Profits will go to the couple’s charity of choice, Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. [WWD]
