Fashion news: McQueen v. Madden, Miu Miu wants all the attention and, oh dear, Shoe-Han
Alexander McQueen (left) Steve Madden (right). Photo via The Cut Alexander McQueen is taking Steve Madden to court; the designer is being sued for allegedly copying the Faithful bootie. McQueen’s attempt to halt production of the shoe with a cease and desist order was greeted with refusal from Madden. What can we say–imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? [The Cut]
Miu Miu wants to be the centre of attention. At least in stores carrying the designer label’s bags. The brand has recently pulled out of several U.S. department stores—the company wanted their merchandise to be displayed on its own, while many stores mixed the purses with other designers. [WSJ]

Fashion news: Get your Wild Things onesie, Photoshop regs in France and Anna holds things up at Prada
Halloween is only a month away and boy do we have the perfect costume for you–assuming you’re a huge fan of onesies and Where the Wild Things Are. [Opening Ceremony]
A proposed French law has members of the fashion industry up in arms. The law, which would label manipulated images to help combat eating disorders, is currently backed by 50 politicians. Tony Chambers, editor-in-chief of Wallpaper argues, “These things should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Fantasy and artistic interpretation are core ingredients in fashion, advertising and art photography.” [WWD, via The Cut] What do you think? Should Photoshopped pics be labelled as such? Tell us in the comments?

Anna’s ’90s casual look, Olivia Palermo launches jewellery line, Annie Leibovitz designs for Vuitton
Yes it’s true, even Anna Wintour made the same horrendous fashion faux pas of the early ’90s as everyone else: she rocked embroidered sweatshirts paired with pink leggings and ballet flats. I also spy an additional sweater tied around Anna’s waist. Shameful, but we all went there, didn’t we? [Huffington Post]
Sam Haskins, known for his fashion photography that has inspired stylists and designers for the past 30 years, has a new book coming out called Fashion Etcetera. The book was published in partnership with Tommy Hilfiger, who has paid homage to Haskins’ work in recent years. Haskins is currently in hospital recovering from a stroke he sustained last week. Fashion news: Anna is not amused, Tom Ford looking for funding, Lara Stone apparently tired of being so “fat”
Photo via Daily Mail Anna Wintour looked displeased at being seated front row next to Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof at the Twenty8Twelve show. The girls garnered attention, hugging and fawning over one another, while the famed editor looked unamused in every shot, hiding behind her oversized dark sunglasses. The camera never lies, and in this case, it failed to hide Ms. Wintour’s obvious disdain. [Daily Mail]
Nordstrom is launching a line of Twilight clothing that will hit stores in a few weeks. Eager to take a stab at sporting the New Moon ensembles? MTV will be hosting a sneak peek at the collection in what they are calling “Twilight Fashion Week.” The Twilighter tees will broadcast support for either ‘Team Edward’ or ‘Team Jacob,’ since, of course, we’re all dying to know. Ruffian designs Anthropologie line, Burberry gets digital, and celebrity designers in trouble
Burberry is hopping on the social-media bandwagon with their Burberry Prorsum runway show. It will be simulcast live from London Fashion Week at live.burberry.com at 1:30 p.m. EST today. The brand recently launched Facebook and Twitter accounts, and is set to create a site called “Art of the Trench,” where loyal fans can contribute photos of themselves in their classic nova-check coats. Celebrity clothing lines are being hit hard by the recession. Anna Wintour, and we’re sure many others, is pleased by the economic situation, saying it will weed out the weak. “Every D-level celebrity who thought they could make a quick buck by designing a handbag or whatever is going to disappear,” she said. Stars who don’t seem to have staying power (at least in the design world) include Justin Timberlake, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Lopez. [WSJ]

NYFW reads: Fashion Angel, Hamish sings and more
Photo via stylebubble.com Vena Cava and BCBG showed yesterday during opening day at New York Fashion Week, but the designer that captured everyone’s attention (despite a 9 a.m. timeslot) was Michael Angel and his wild, angular prints. More pics at the link. [StyleBubble]
Vena Cava was apparently no slouch either, setting the collection of smart dresses against the backdrop of a Fiery Furnaces performance. [Fashionista]

“Lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space”: Anna Wintour on Letterman
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour made an appearance on The Late Show last night to pump up The September Issue and her shopping initiative, Fashion’s Night Out. Ms. Wintour didn’t shock us with a sudden bout of warmth and cheerfulness, but showed some sharp humour–the title above is a self assessment based on epithets she read in the newspaper. Dave asked such standard questions as (I’m paraphrasing): Are you really such a hard ass? How can you be fashionable with no money? (Answer: Buy a lipstick, which we totally agree with). Letterman didn’t seem to have the highest opinion of fashion–he brushed off Wintour’s suggestion of Thom Browne (she was making fun of him), stated that he didn’t know anyone with a fashion budget (which we doubt is true) and wondered if the magazine’s fabled last minute reshoots are the norm: “Absolutely. As it is for a TV show, I mean, you guys didn’t even call me til Friday.” Ouch.
Note to interviewers: Anna will never cop to The Devil Wears Prada being about her, so please, stop trying.
Clip after the jump.

Fashion news: The CFDA Town Hall, a Rad new line and the offspring of Anna and Karl
The CFDA had a Town Hall meeting last night to discuss the relevancy of out-of-season fashion weeks in the Internet age. But what you really want to know is: What did André Leon Talley wear? “The Vogue editor at large got out in a light gray suit with a small Louis Vuitton man-purse and parked himself at a table by the entrance. He applied lotion to his hands and sent someone out for a cappuccino, skim, with Splenda, at the Starbucks across the street. Once it was delivered, Mr. Talley went into the auditorium and took his seat.” Thank you for just existing, ALT. [New York Observer]
Toronto’s Tommy Ton of Jak&Jil took the photo above for Canadian designer Rad Hourani’s new line, Rad by Rad Hourani–a more affordable collection that doesn’t veer too far from his drapey, unisex vision. [StyleFile]
