When Todd Lynn moved to London in 1998, we doubt the Smith Falls native guessed that he’d one day be atop the British fashion scene. Already beloved by the likes of Rihanna, Mick Jagger, Courtney Love and fellow Canuck Coco Rocha, the tailor with a hard rock edge was recognized by the British Fashion Council […]

Fashion news: World-weary teens, Tamara Mellon may sell Jimmy Choo, and Ralph Lauren’s new catalogue, er, kids’ book
We’d like to direct your attention to the self-professed “gothic counterpoint to Tavi,” French wunderkind Charles Guislain. Though he doesn’t have a blog, his sense of style has turned enough heads to land him in Italian Vogue and turn him into a YouTube sensation. At 17, he says he is already tired of Europe: “I need to escape European life. I am a little bored with this now.” Le sigh! [The Cut]

Fashion news: Lanvin’s NY boutique, Lacroix designer considering fast fashion and how Beckham introduced the straight man to fashion
While it’s easy to slam David Beckham – and anything Becks related- as excessive, Stephano Gabbana (of Dolce & Gabbana) will argue that that excess actually revolutionized men’s fashion. “Here was a soccer player who is straight, with a wife and children, and men were saying: ‘If he wore it, I can wear it too.’ Before that it felt like men’s fashion was just for gay men or strange people – men were afraid to wear something special.” [Vogue UK]
Lanvin will open its first New York boutique by the end of this week. “It’s about time,” says creative director Alber Elbaz. Great, now take that same mentality and shift it to the other side of the border… [WWD]

Fashion news: Claudia Schiffer photos interpreted as racist, Crocs save a life and Fashion’s Night Out cranks up the fun
Photographs of Claudia Schiffer by Karl Lagerfeld for a Stern Fotographie 60th anniversary retrospective are being slammed as racially insensitive. In one image Schiffer is captured wearing black face, and in another the supermodel is made to look Asian. “There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines,” said Shevelle Rhule, of Pride magazine in response to the pictures. “This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models.” [Telegraph]

Dispatches from Milan: A kerfuffle at Cavalli, ’70s glam at Gucci, bell bottoms at Pucci and more
Okay, while there’s a big kerfuffle going on at Roberto Cavalli (I ‘m hearing it’s over Lindsay Lohan, and Courtney Love) let me take a minute and think way back to see if I can possibly absorb all I’ve seen today and yesterday. Since I last blogged, I’ve been to showrooms, presentations and shows too numerous to list. Here are some highlights:

NYFW news: Snuggie vs. Slanket, Courtney loves attention, Gaga disappoints fans and more
The Snuggie runway show had it all: prints, colours and canine sizes to suit every Snuggie occasion. But according to Joan Rivers, the Snuggie is a rip off of the Slanket. “I think the Slanket is an item of fashion, because he was on my show How’d You Get So Rich?” Rivers said. “And he was the original — the Snuggie took it from the Slanket.” Sounds like a classic case of which came first, the Snuggie or the Slanket?
