Met Gala 2014: The 54 best dressed on last night’s epic red carpet
See the complete Met Gala 2014 red carpet »
If reports about Anna Wintour wanting this year’s Met Gala to be more exclusive were true, they certainly did not apply to the A-list. Last night’s red carpet was stacked (and we mean stacked) with just about everyone from the recluse to rising star. Surely, it had something to do with the fact that last night was the inaugural Met Gala celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renamed Anna Wintour Costume Center. Maybe too, it was just like the rest of us have been trained to understand: The Met Gala is not to be missed.
Honouring oft-forgotten American couturier Charles James, last night’s event was all about 1950s glamour. Its “white tie” guest-list prompted gents like Johnny Depp and Kanye West to wear tails, Zoe Saldana to wear a recreated Michael Kors bustle and both Taylor Swift and Sarah Jessica Parker to take to the stairs with over-the-top Oscar de la Renta trains. Unlike the sometimes cookie cutter Oscars, the Met Gala is a time to break out some real steez and red carpet queen Lupita Nyong’o did just that in a flapper-inspired feathered Prada dress. Perhaps more Poiret than James, the dress made for some serious chatter from both the “for” and “against” camps. Fellow red carpet queen (and queen of life, truly) Rihanna went anti-theme in a sexy stomach-baring Stella McCartney dress which killed, as usual.

Coco Rocha vs. Diane Kruger: Who was best dressed on the Metropolitan Opera red carpet?
This week, two former FASHION cover girls duke it out in the battle of who wore it best. Dun dun dun… On Monday night, Diane Kruger and Coco Rocha walked the red carpet at opening night of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Eugene Onegin in New York.
Repping her homeboys like the great Canuck that she is, Coco Rocha stunned in a midnight blue gown from Greta Constantine’s Fall 2013 collection. The dress featured intricately curved folds on the waist and bodice which peeped a little skin here and there, making for the ultimate red carpet bodycon statement. The model mildly slicked back her recently cropped do and went for a bold cat eye and coral lips.
On the flip side, Diane Kruger was polished in a black, white and red colourblocked Prabal Gurung gown and Casedei pumps. The German actress chose minimal makeup, wearing a neutral dusty rose lip and pronounced lashes. She opted for a deep side-parted do with a slight fringe slicked back into a bun.

Venice Film Festival 2013: Our top 10 best dressed from the first week of red carpets, parties and photo calls
See the Venice Film Festival 2013 images »
It’s only a week into the 70th annual Venice Film Festival and the stars are bringing their sartorial A-game. To help us keep track of the endless red carpet premieres, photo-calls and press conferences, we’re rounding it up with 10 of our favourite fashion looks so far. With TIFF coming up this week, we’re getting a good idea of what the celebrities are bringing to the red carpet and let’s just say, we’re not worried at all.
We’re used to seeing Sandra Bullock playing it safe with monochromatic tones on the red carpet, and so it was a breath of fresh air to see the Oscar-winning actress in two colourful ensembles last week. Arriving in style, Bullock wore a colourblock dress by Alex Perry and Giuseppe Zanotti heels at the photo call for her film Gravity. Later in the evening, she left us speechless at the opening ceremony in a red strapless silk gown by J. Mendel from the Resort 2014 collection as she completed the outfit with Martin Katz jewellery and Roger Vivier black clutch and ankle-strap sandals.

MET Gala predictions: Our 10 favourite looks of the past and guesses for what the A-list might wear this year
See our favourite MET Gala looks and predictions »
It’s been a couple of months since the last big red carpet event and let’s face it: what is fashion without the red carpet? Since May is just around the corner, this only means the biggest fashion event of the year, the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in New York. This year’s exhibit, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, will feature around designs for both men and women focusing on the evolution of punk’s influence in the world of fashion since the birth of its movement in the 1970s to its present day.
With punk theme as the focus, who better than to have punk’s latest muse, actress Rooney Mara, and Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci as this year’s co-chairs alongside Anna Wintour and Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo? Not usually associated with punk, Beyonce was named Honourary Chair of the event as if her show-stopping Givenchy dress at last year’s MET Gala was not enough of a reason to be given this honour.

Inside Paul Hardy’s 10th Anniversary party in Calgary: The who’s who of the Canadian fashion industry celebrated one of its finest designers in style
See the Paul Hardy 10th anniversary party photos »
Party Hardy! Finally—I’ve been waiting to say that ever since FASHION received an invite to Canadian design star Paul Hardy’s 10th anniversary bash in Calgary on Saturday. It was an exclusive guest list, after all, (including Dragon’s Den billionaire W. Brett Wilson and his date, the Real Housewives of Vancouver’s Mary Zilba as well as Vancouver’s blonde and bubbly country singing sisters, Carly and Britt McKillip of One More Girl), and might have been the biggest, brightest, boldest birthday party to ever hit the Alberta fashion scene.
Mr. Hardy, Tourism Calgary and Travel Alberta flew in fashion’s top editors, bloggers and VIP’s from Vancouver to Toronto, including the Globe & Mail’s Tiyana Grulovic, Hello! Canada’s Tara Henley, FASHION’s resident street style photographer Stefania Yarhi, and Style Panel’s Gracie Carroll. After waking up in the swanky Hyatt Regency Calgary and chic-boutique Hotel Arts, the first snowfall of the season made our trek to the island River Café feel like some kind of wonderland—or as Hardy perfectly positioned it, “Narnia”.

Blake Lively, Linda Evangelista, Elle Fanning and more! Who wore Chanel best on the Bijoux de Dimants red carpet?
Check out the looks from the Chanel red carpet and vote!
In the battle of who wears Chanel best, the victor is often not easy to spot. Last night in New York City Chanel celebrated the 80th anniversary of its Bijoux de Dimants collection and as a fashion house known to attract many celebrities, this event was no exception.
Blake Lively made her first public appearance since marrying Ryan Reynolds (he snuck in after her red carpet walk) and wore Chanel from the Fall 2012 Couture collection. It was paired with Christian Louboutin heels (she really doesn’t wear anything else), Chanel jewels and a newlywed glow—Blake Lively’s skin looked fantastic! Alexa Chung, who recently announced she will be writing a book, wore an embroidered piece from the brand’s pre-Spring 2013 collection. The voluminous dress makes her look like a young girl attending a birthday party, but we’re into it.

Celeb poll: Our picks for top ten best dressed at Cannes. Who’s your favourite?
For the past week, the Hollywood A-list as well (as the impossibly-stylish set) have hit the French Riviera for the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival. As to be expected, the focus has been just as much about what the stars are wearing on the red carpets as it has been about the critically acclaimed films. With stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton changing outfits multiple of times per day, its been a job in and of itself to narrow down our 10 best dressed. We’ve done it though, and now we turn it over to you. Who’s YOUR favourite? Vote after the jump.
