What’s in your bag, Jennifer Daubney

Photography by Erin Seaman For today’s bag snoop, we’re going inside the beautiful Marni bag belonging to Jennifer Daubney, Holt Renfrew’s longstanding lady behind the velvet rope (a.k.a. manager of public relations). While her daily dealings may involve some of the best names in fashion, from Tom Ford to Prada and Chanel, she is one of the most hilarious, endearing people we know. Always a class act from head to toe, this PR maven hasn’t let being seven months pregnant hold her back from being Alexander Wang-clad at all the summer’s best parties.

HIGH-WAISTED RETRO BIKINI | ONE-PIECE MAILLOT | SPORTYQ: How tight should a swimsuit be?
A: “Bathing suits and jeans should both be very tight when you buy them. The fabric will relax, and there aren’t many things less attractive than a bathing suit that sags.” —MannQ: Can you alter a swimsuit that’s not quite right?
A: “The straps are very easy to do, but I wouldn’t alter the sides because it would stress the seams. A swimsuit will stretch out a little bit, so you could wear it around the house until it gets comfortable.” —Yeung -
What’s in your FEED bag Lauren Bush Lauren?

Photography by Erin Seaman As the latest in its slew of charity initiatives, Holt Renfrew has launched another exclusive: a collection of Tory Burch–designed FEED bags. What’s FEED, you ask? It’s the six-years-young initiative headed up by the familially blessed model-come-do-gooder Lauren Bush Lauren, which creates and sells products with proceeds from each going to help fight world hunger. It’s as simple as this: Buy a FEED bag, feed many. Added bonus? The Holt Renfrew edition is only $50!
When Bush Lauren hit Toronto earlier this month for the launch of the special-edition bags, we asked her to open up her own.

The cat-eye: We look to icons of different eras for inspiration—plus, tips for painting your own

Jonathan Saunders Spring 2012. Photography by Peter Stigter The cat-eye is having a moment. Celia Ellenberg takes us through its many versions over the years and finds out how to execute them.
While spring tends to signal the arrival of all beauty things light and bright, the runways told a different story this season as designers embraced a certain graphic cosmetic accoutrement that’s seen an impressive evolution over the past few centuries. Behold, the rebirth of the cat-eye. Black-rimmed upper lash lines were the makeup look of choice at shows such as Ruffian and Dolce & Gabbana, and while the backstage miracle workers made it look easy, mastering the perfect flick on your own can be a different story. We’ve gathered eight eyeliner icons and asked Hourglass Cosmetics’ artistic director Gina Brooke and makeup artist Pati Dubroff to weigh in on whether the liquid pen is truly mightier than the kohl pencil when it comes to crafting the perfect winged liner. Because, according to Brooke, “if you use the right products, getting the look is not an issue.”

Toronto shop notes: Bling Tones

Meredith Marks cuff $3,500. Photography by Carlo Mendoza Meredith Marks knows how to shine. A former model, the Chicago-based accessories designer (and mother of three) launched her eponymous jewellery line in 2010. Since then, her modern-meets-vintage sparklers (hello, white-diamond and rose-gold teardrop earrings) have been spotted on A-listers such as Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. Now, they’re swinging this side of the border. From May 4 to 13, Holt Renfrew is hosting an exclusive Meredith Marks (meredithmarks.com) trunk show at its flagship location (50 Bloor St. W., 416-922-2333, holtrenfrew.com).
