Fashion news: Hermès scarf how-to, Miranda Kerr marries Orlando Bloom and candlelit shopping at Lanvin
Hermès has taken a hint from Burberry‘s Art of the Trench campaign. The French fashion house has just unveiled its J’aime mon carré project, which celebrates the iconic Hermes scarf. A website will soon be launched to feature tips on how to wear and knot the scarf and information on any scarf-related events. [Vogue UK]
The new Lanvin freestanding store in New York–which, with fox fur benches and chandeliers sounds like an absolute retail reverie–officially postponed its opening because of electricity failures, but some well-to-do New Yorkers were allowed to shop by candlelight. [Racked]

While it’s easy to slam David Beckham – and anything Becks related- as excessive, Stephano Gabbana (of Dolce & Gabbana) will argue that that excess actually revolutionized men’s fashion. “Here was a soccer player who is straight, with a wife and children, and men were saying: ‘If he wore it, I can wear it too.’ Before that it felt like men’s fashion was just for gay men or strange people – men were afraid to wear something special.” [Vogue UK]
Lanvin will open its first New York boutique by the end of this week. “It’s about time,” says creative director Alber Elbaz. Great, now take that same mentality and shift it to the other side of the border… [WWD]

Fashion news: Marc Jacobs’ guilty pleasure, fashion’s Farmville and Rodarte and M.A.C. apologize for their controversial line
Rodarte and M.A.C Cosmetics have sparked quite the controversy with their recent makeup collaboration, where a nail lacquer shade was named after Juárez, a Mexican town that happens to be notorious for its high rape and murder rates. The Rodarte designers have already apologized, “We never intended to make light of this serious issue and we are truly sorry,” and M.A.C sent an email to editors saying they will be changing the name of the shade. Just because he designs for some of the world’s biggest luxury hounds, doesn’t mean Marc Jacobs doesn’t have time for the other side of the spectrum: “OK, recently I watched every episode of Jersey Shore‘s first season. I don’t know if it was any good and I certainly didn’t learn anything, but it was definitely hypnotic and it gave my brain a vacation.” [The Cut]

If you think animals fight for their mates, you should see Ford and Next go at it over models. Ford has sued Next three times for stealing models, and now Next is counter-suing, after one of their agents (with three of their prized models) jumped to Ford. Drama! [The Cut]
Taking one for the team, Marc Jacobs is the model for his first men’s fragrance in a decade. Aptly named, Bang, it’s first ad features a lubed-up Jacobs lying naked with an oversized cologne bottle between his legs. Lets just hope none of the older, leathery designers decide to follow suit. Karl Lagerfeld cites celeb overexposure, while the Marilyn Agency’s Robert Ferrell suggests the economic crisis might have something to do it–having a celebrity can “double or triple” the budget. YSL designer Stefano Pilati just plain likes to work with models: “[Actresses] have an attitude, but will never be the fashion attitude. Fashion news: Karl gets Goofy, Robert Duffy to wed and Nygård connected to factory allegedly practicing human trafficking
Peter Nygård is under fire for using a Jordanian factory that allegedly partakes in human trafficking. According to a National Labor Committee report, the International British Garments factory–which sews Nygård’s Alia, Tan Jay and Investments labels–is said to have taken 1,200 workers’ passports, and “has held them as indentured servants.” Nygård International claims they had no knowledge of the allegations and are launching their own investigation. Fashion news: Michael Kors sets model age limits, Marc Jacobs doesn’t “find clothes sexy at all,” McQueen’s ashes to be scattered in Scotland
Last night at Harvard, Anna Wintour, Michael Kors and Natalia Vodianova participated in a panel discussion on “Health Matters: Weight and Wellness in the World of Fashion,” where Kors spoke out about the age of models, and announced that he will only hire models 16 years and older, saying, “The age of models really has to become a priority. We need to give these girls a chance to grow up.” Kors also stated that he won’t hire models who show any sign of an eating disorder, because “You shouldn’t support it or encourage it or support it, just say no.” Meanwhile Vodianova admitted to a post-pregnancy eating disorder due to the pressure to get back into modelling almost immediately. “I don’t find clothes sexy at all,” Marc Jacobs told a crowd last night at New York’s Museum at F.I.T. “I find people sexy, and I find personalities fascinating and sexy and appealing and charming.
