Balenciaga rumours: Who would you like to see replace Nicolas Ghesquière?
We were given 24 hours to reflect upon the departure of Nicolas Ghesquière from Balenciaga before the rumour mill started up, and the rumours will only continue until the Parisian fashion house announces whom it has selected to take the reigns.
Chief executive officer, Isabelle Guichot, told WWD that they will announce the successor of Nicolas Ghesquière “as soon as we’re ready” but added that they “have a short list.”
Although she declined to delve into the short list, speculation has already been made about who will be stepping in. According to sources, American-based designers Alexander Wang and Joseph Altuzarra are rumoured to be candidates for the coveted role as well as London talents, Mary Katrantzou, J.W. Anderson, Thomas Tait and Christopher Kane.

Top 10 Fashion Trends, Spring 2013: We distill over a month of runway and street style photos into 100 of the season’s strongest moments
See the biggest Spring 2013 fashion trends »
See all of our fashion month coverage »It’s official, Spring 2013 fashion month is over. And after receiving a daily dose of street style photos and runway updates, it would be silly for us to ignore the trends that we saw day after day (after day, after day). It’s hard not to fall victim to sensory overload, but thankfully our street style photographer, Stefania Yarhi, made it easy for us to pick and choose which trends we know we’ll be seeing all spring long. With hundreds of photos from Paris, Milan, London, New York, and Toronto at our disposal, we just couldn’t ignore the countless graphic tops (a day without a Balenciaga sci-fi sweater sighting was a total shocker), exposed bellies, suits, and mixed prints—so we didn’t because we’re positive they will be huge come Spring 2013. We’ve selected 10 of the biggest fashion trends from the streets and the runways and put them together in one place, so gets to clickin’. The leaves may just be starting to fall, but it’s never too early to plan for spring, right? (RIGHT!)

London Fashion Week Spring 2013 backstage beauty: Magenta lips, inky eyes and more from our top 5 makeup looks
All eyes are on Milan now, but let’s not forget some of London Fashion Week Spring 2013’s best in beauty. Most refreshing was the influx of bright lips, an area of the face that didn’t get a lot of play at New York Fashion Week, where the general trend was minimal makeup and manicures—nude polish dominated as did completely bare, buffed-to-shine nails. In fact, backstage in the Big Apple makeup artists often skipped putting pigment on the mouth entirely opting for clear gloss. (One of a few notable exceptions, the matte raspberry lip at Jason Wu was awesome.) When they did pull out the colour, they applied it to the top half of the face: take Dick Page’s green and blue over-the-eye arches at Michael Kors, and Tom Pecheux’s abstract smears on lids at Peter Som. But, where New York left us wanting for bold, colourful lips, London made up for it in spades. Even bare-face-loving Burberry Prorsum busted out the rouge lipstick, hopefully a sign that lips won’t be silenced from here on out.

London Fashion Week Spring 2013: 5 trends already staking their claim on next season
J.W Anderson Spring 2013 shot by Peter Stigter See our Spring 2013 developing top 5 trends »
While the international collections are only half way through there is no doubt that some Spring 2013 trends have been set. London Fashion Week elaborated on some of the trends that we first spotted in New York making spring style seem clearer than ever. Spring 2013 promises bold fashion ready for risk takers. Those who thought the crop top was a phase seem to have been proven wrong. Look for bare bellies and plenty of skin throughout the collections—start those crunches now.
Skin is definitely in, as leather frequents the catwalks for Spring 2013. At Mulberry, leather-on-leather takes the typically non-summer fabric for a ride dropping it right in the middle of its sugary sweet sixties-inspired collection. Meanwhile, defined digital prints continue to develop for Spring 2013 in the hands of their mistress, Mary Katrantzou: vivid images take us on a trip with international banknotes and postage stamps.

What’s in your bag, Mary Katrantzou?
Photography by Peter Jensen While she was in Vancouver for The Room’s fête in her honour, all-star Brit designer Mary Katrantzou let us have a snoop fest inside her Mary Poppins-esque Givenchy bag. The hilarious contents seemed never-ending, as did the designer’s penchant for equally hilarious anecdotes of explanation. It’s not every day you get to peek inside the purse of a digi-print genius, so without further ado, we present the bag of one Miss Katrantzou!

Inside The Room Vancouver’s Mary Katrantzou fête: The city’s finest donning Magic Eye prints and designer hints of another possible collab
Photoraphy by Peter Jensen Pattern princess Mary Katrantzou’s first-ever visit to Vancouver (“We’ve got fantastic weather, and I was expecting gloomy rain!” she enthused in an earlier interview) turned out a colourful crowd at The Room at the Bay last night. A noticeable number of party people sported kaleidoscopic looks from the designer’s new collection, which has gained equal notoriety for its elevation of everyday objects such as spoons and typewriters, as well as its trippy, engrossing patterns reminiscent of Magic Eye images from the ‘90s (a comparison Mary acknowledges with, “Yes, I heard that recently! I wasn’t sure what those magical eye drawings were.”)
