The Cannes report: Partygoing with Diane Kruger, Mia Wasikowska, Uma Thurman, Olivier Zahm, Clemence Poésy and more!
By Laura deCarufel
Here’s a fashion fan party trick: Determine how many pairs of white jeans Olivier Zahm owns. The Purple Fashion magazine editor-in-chief wore a slim-fitting pair at every major event I saw him at during Cannes: The Chanel Cruise 2012 after-party, where he snapped photos of Kristen McMenemy dancing on a chair, and then nuzzled with It Brit Poppy Delevigne; the Calvin Klein beach-side extravaganza, where he wore his sunglasses at night, sipping champagne near Uma Thurman and Rosario Dawson; and, of course, at the late-night piano bar, which Le Baron, the iconic Parisian nightclub, has taken over during the festival, and over which Zahm presided like hipster royalty.

Dispatch from Milan: The blues (and George Clooney) at Giorgio Armani
It’s the last day of Milan Fashion Week. Am I blue? Not at all, but Giorgio Armani certainly is as he closed the week with a calm, serene show full of dark, inky hues. The collection mixed a new silhouette of short cropped jackets layered over long skirts and dresses, or, sometimes, over shorter skirts and narrow pants. With sheer fabrics, turban hats, flat sandals, a ruffle here and sequins there, Mr. Armani had his audience enraptured. (George Clooney in the front row didn’t hurt.)
Calm seemed to be the word of the day.

Last night at Harvard, Anna Wintour, Michael Kors and Natalia Vodianova participated in a panel discussion on “Health Matters: Weight and Wellness in the World of Fashion,” where Kors spoke out about the age of models, and announced that he will only hire models 16 years and older, saying, “The age of models really has to become a priority. We need to give these girls a chance to grow up.” Kors also stated that he won’t hire models who show any sign of an eating disorder, because “You shouldn’t support it or encourage it or support it, just say no.” Meanwhile Vodianova admitted to a post-pregnancy eating disorder due to the pressure to get back into modelling almost immediately. “I don’t find clothes sexy at all,” Marc Jacobs told a crowd last night at New York’s Museum at F.I.T. “I find people sexy, and I find personalities fascinating and sexy and appealing and charming. So a sexy girl wrapped in a sheet is a sexy girl, and an un-sexy girl in a low-cut dress is still an un-sexy girl.” Also, he wears briefs, if you wanted to know. [The Cut]
