Alexander McQueen and Kenzo duke it out in the battle of who’s video will get you high first
Apparently both Alexander McQueen’s and Kenzo’s creative teams have blowing our minds on their agendas today. In their latest videos, McQueen’s for fall and Kenzo’s for pre-fall, the brands’ latest collections are presented in equally frenetic videos.
McQueen’s, directed by David Sims, stars Suvi Koponen (who is also the print campaign’s star) as some sort of intergalactic being traveling through the net/space/a video game/your solarized subconscious as she takes her visor sunglasses on and off.

Vancouver shop notes: The steal
This snappy baseball jacket from H&M ($80, hm.com) hits on the season’s athletic trend (mesh vests at Alexander Wang, slouchy jerseys at Isabel Marant and exaggerated ball caps at Kenzo). Its striking gold and burgundy colour combo and shrunken shape will keep you looking like an all-star all season long.

MEN’S FASHION: We talk fashion and fragrance with Justin Timberlake
By James Grainger
All the world may be a stage, but there are few players with as much panache and multi-genre presence as Justin Timberlake. Actor, musician, fashion insider (with his William Rast line) and Saturday Night Live favourite, Timberlake’s most endearing role may be that of good sport. Aptly, the 31-year-old is the face of Givenchy’s Play fragrance portfolio, which grows this spring with the introduction of the woody, gingery Play Sport.
What makes a good fragrance?
“A scent shouldn’t be like an attack. It’s weird how a strong fragrance homogenizes personality instead of adding to it. [Play Sport] was attractive to me because it was clean, fresh and unobtrusive. When you get close up, that’s when you should notice a scent.” -
PFW Diary: All the sleeve and shoulder action at Givenchy, Kenzo, Stella McCartney, Céline, and Chloé
View the sleeve and shoulder trend in action »
We need to talk about sleeves. Shoulders too, but first sleeves.
There is a majorly mannish tailoring trend forming at the Fall 2012 shows in Paris, but what keeps it from being dull is that the designers are having fun with sleeves.
Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci cut his sleeves short and wide for boxy jackets and colour-blocked furs. We’ll surely be seeing these goods on Alicia Keys and the other stars who were in his front row.
There were striped knit sleeves on wool coats at Kenzo (made ultra-cool thanks to designers and Opening Ceremony co-founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim).

Hollywood beauty: Meet the hair and makeup artists behind film and TV’s influential looks
Featured from left to right: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream skin protectant ($25, at Shoppers Drug Mart) was used to give skin a sheen in A Single Man. Shu Uemura Essence Absolue nourishing protective oil ($68, shuuemura.com) makes damaged strands “shine like baby hair,” says Cornell. Chapstick ($3, at Shoppers Drug Mart) in “Cherry” is offers’ go-to lip tint.
Almost every season, Hollywood has a way of asserting its influence on the runways, with leading ladies from contemporary and iconic films inspiring makeup and hair at several shows. For Fall 2011 alone, makeup artist Val Garland painted a smoky eye at Sophie Theallet to evoke a modern-day Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde, while at Dsquared, she channelled Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain. And Garland wasn’t the only one mining imdb for muses. Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman had Hailee Steinfeld in mind while he weaved what he refers to as “Amish/True Grit braids” at Kenzo.

They said/We said: What we think Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim will do for Kenzo
Hot on the heels of Roland Mouret’s appointment as creative director of Robert Clergerie, Kenzo announced today that Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim are taking over as the label’s creative directing duo. The LVMH-owned Japanese label bid adieu to former director Antonio Marras after his final show at Men’s Paris Fashion Week in June. (We wonder whose musical chair he will take next.) Pierre-Yves Roussel, CEO of LVMH’s fashion division, considered 25 candidates for the job of creative director, and though he couldn’t decide on just one, the lead duo are practically sure to re-establish the brand in the U.S. after an eight-year absence.
The two 36-year-olds have never been formally trained in design and plan to hire a team of skilled designers to make their creativity come to life. What they lack in pattern-making skills, they are bound to make up for in matters of retail, marketing, collaboration, and overall company expansion. With a flair for knowing how to make clothing with an air of cool and an indescribable allure, there’s no reason Leon and Lim’s fresh take on fashion won’t be successful at Kenzo. The pair will show their first collection in October for Spring 2012.
