The hot ticket: 25 years of Fashion Cares to be showcased at this year’s show
View our vintage Fashion Cares photos
This Sunday September 9 marks the 25th Anniversary event of M.A.C Viva Glam Fashion Cares put on by the Elton John AIDS Foundation and The AIDS Committee of Toronto. Tickets are still available for this always glamorous event being held at the Sony Centre, which this year includes the likes of Janelle Monae, Scissor Sisters, Sky Ferreira and of course Elton John himself. Hosted by Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista and homegrown designers Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared, the evening will include a red carpet arrival, a cocktail reception, and a live fashion show of pieces inspired by the past 25 years of Fashion Cares. There will also be an exhibit that will showcase past Fashion Cares events through images, video and even costumes from Elton John’s personal collection. Look through our gallery to see some highlights of past Fashion Cares events, including Canadian model Donna DeMarco at 1988’s Fashion Blooms themed affair, as well as shots from more recent galas of Katy Perry and Lil’ Kim in a barely-there gold number. Tickets for the event right now range from $100 to $205 and are still available on Ticketmaster.

What’s in your bag, Karen Cleveland?
Y’all better take note, because what’s inside today’s bag speaks volumes on how to make things happen. Karen Cleveland, FASHION’s senior manager of marketing and communications, is our resident wheeler and dealer, who makes sponsorships, partnerships and all other ships happen with a smile (and a sincere one at that) perma-planted. To boot, she’s also an etiquette expert, sharing advice (and trust us, she’s always right) on Twitter via @SchoolFinishing. So without further ado, what does this power babe tote along all day long?

As we approach September 6, three of the country’s top metropolises are prepping for Canada’s first-ever Fashion’s Night Out, a veritable fashion fiesta that began with Vogue and CFDA’s first FNO in New York City in 2009. The star-studded list of M.A.C Viva Glam Fashion Cares hosts and performers has been released!
M.A.C Viva Glam Fashion Cares is one of Toronto’s hottest annual tickets, so it comes as no surprise that the fundraiser gala’s roster for this year’s event does not disappoint. From longtime HIV/AIDS activist Elton John (whose partner David Furnish co-chairs the event with Michael King) to new faces like Sky Ferreira (who we spoke with last month) and Janelle Monáe, the routinely sold-out gala is shaping up to be the go-to event of the fall.
Not only will there be enough musical talent on hand to easily keep you distracted all night (think everyone from Scissor Sisters to homegrown talent like Kreesha Turner), but in true Fashion Cares style, there will be an abundance of amazing fashion as well. Dean and Dan Caten of DSQUARED2, who are teaming up with legendary supermodel Linda Evangelista for hosting duties, are sending their designs down the runway at the gala, alongside looks from Vivienne Westwood, Elie Saab, Pink Tartan and more. On that style note, it’s worth mentioning that some of Elton John’s most memorable, famously flamboyant costumes will be on display as well as a quarter century retrospective highlighting the event’s most glamorous looks.

Think you’ve seen it all? Check out 26 photos of actors transformed into living statues by M.A.C artists in Montreal!
Wowza! M.A.C Cosmetics brought body art to the streets of old Montreal last week with an outdoor exhibit of living statues created by some of the brand’s expert artists. The exhibit entitled “Hit the Pavement” transformed actors into aged copper, tin and gold statues so realistic, you had to get up close to see that they were, in fact, breathing! Major kudos go to the artists for creating such a fantastical feat. We truly can’t get enough of these photos.

Betty or Veronica? M.A.C takes the eternal debate to a vote!
Before we were all deciding if we were Carries or Samanthas, we picked sides on another fictional personality divide: were you sweet, girl-next-door Betty Cooper or fiery diva Veronica Lodge? M.A.C Cosmetics and Archie Comics are teaming up to give us the opportunity to finally embody our favourite girl in real life, at least when […]

All the photos and backstage beauty scoop from Rad Hourani’s first couture collection
View the collection and beauty face charts! »
Montreal native Rad Hourani managed to make fashion history not just once, but twice last week: not only was he the first Canadian to show during haute couture week in Paris, but he was also the first designer to ever show a unisex haute couture collection.
He described his collection as “unisex, pure and complex” to FASHION Montreal editor Patricia Gajo last month, and the collection was all that and more: luxurious, sleek and meticulously tailored. The makeup and hair was also true to the Jordan-born designer’s bare-boned, androgynous style. At the hands of senior M.A.C artist Luc Bouchard, models were sent down the runway in a palette of neutrals inspired by “angelic creatures,” their slicked back hair baring their minimalist faces.

Hot fun in the summertime: 10 products that will combat melting makeup, humid hair and other sweaty beauty hangups
The temperatures are kicking into high gear right about now, spelling out trouble for our beauty, skin and hair upkeep. Melting eyeliner, filmy skin, limp strands—as much as we love summer, it can definitely do a number on our looks. But with a long weekend on the horizon, the odds of hiding inside during a hot day are slim to none. Our advice: don’t fight it! Instead of sticking to your tried-and-true makeup routine (likely created during cooler times) break out new formulas and looks that work with the heat. Read on to discover a few of our favourite finds that will help you look like a beach bombshell and not a melting mess.

Beauty magnified: We examine the sleek, floral-inspired beauty look on Nicole Farhi’s Spring 2012 runway

The striking beauty look stayed on point with the mesh tanks, cocoon-shaped dresses and cotton shorts in a colour palette inspired by Farhi’s visit to a blossoming Indian garden. -
Quotable: Iris Apfel will never pay a fortune to look like a freak
If there were anyone who’d be worth listening to when it comes to style pointers, it’d be Iris Apfel. The “geriatric star,” as she refers to herself, has 90 years of experience in the field. With a M.A.C cosmetics line and a Costume Institute exhibit of her wildly eccentric wardrobe under her belt, it’s safe to say she’s an expert. True to form, Apfel had sharp one-liners and nuggets of wisdom to spare during a talk with Tavi Gevinson at the Met last night.
When asked about throwing looks together in the morning, Apfel advised taking chances:
