As you may be able to tell from the cards, candy and chocolate already filling store shelves, Mother’s Day is fast approaching. The yearly challenge of finding the perfect gift before May 12 is officially upon us. Michael Kors seems to be everywhere right now, but the American designer is showing no signs of slowing down. Today it was announced that Michael Kors is launching a new line of colour cosmetics and body care in late August. While there have been a slew of successful fragrances over the years, this line expands the brand’s beauty presence with several new makeup products.

In an interview with WWD, Kors explained that the inspiration behind the new collection came from his own family as well as the different personalities of the Michael Kors customer. “I think [these] three things—sexy, sporty and glam—have always been the DNA of Michael Kors,” Kors said, “and in a strange way, the Michael Kors woman really is all three of those things—it’s just that she feels more strongly about one of them at certain given times.” With that in mind, Kors worked his beauty and fragrance partners to create three different collections—appropriately titled “Sporty,” “Sexy” and “Glam.”

If you’re looking to round out your Spring 2013 wardrobe before the thermometer hits a favourable temperature, we have some easy fixes and it’s all about accessories. From peekaboo panels on red leather purses to woven wedges, these on-trend pieces can complete any look.

For Spring 2013 we saw festival style take its place on the runways of Altuzarra and Band of Ousiders, so why not complete your Coachella packing with a woven bangle and wicker clutch? Sun-drenched raffia, wicker and straw are woven into wedges, stacked heels and shopping totes, signalling laid-back summer style. And if you’re not flocking to one of the many summer festivals and want to keep it basic, the new see-through trend is one that will keep you in the clear. Basic accessories have been redefined by giving oxford shoes plastic inserts and chunky heels on strappy sandals have been made see-through. These peekaboo plastic panels lend lightness to polished metallics and patent leathers.

Fashion month may have finally wrapped, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to forget about the trends that emerged for Fall 2013 on the many runways of New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto—In fact, it’s time for them to take front and centre. While shoppers everywhere are snapping up the best of the selling floor’s offerings for spring and summer, designers, buyers and editors alike are busy prepping ahead. Next season, it’s all about fur, which landed in both faux and real on runways including Marni, JW Anderson, and most strikingly at Fendi, where it was combined in a dizzying multitude of punky ways. The 1990s were back for another resurgence, continuing Spring 2013’s grunge trend at Saint Laurent in Paris and Chloé Comme Parris right here at home. On the street, the look was easily created by many fashion week attendees who layered plaids on waists, under jackets and even on tights. And while practically speaking, it may be no major surprise that outerwear was one of the top Fall 2013 trends, this show season we saw jackets take on new forms with quilting, oversized shapes and bold colours which were mirrored outside the shows, with equally interesting choices hitting the pavement

The British-born Canadian model lends her expert hand to our March 2013 trends issue photo shoot, which features a stark pure-white colour palette and some of Spring 2013’s best pieces from international and homegrown designers including Alexander Wang, Marni, Jeremy Laing and Greta Constantine. The Michael Kors fashion show is always one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week, and it was no exception for Fall 2013. With the brand’s profits at an all-time high, the front row was as star studded as ever.

Today’s mod futurist presentation hosted A-list attendees including Zoe Saldana, Michael Douglas, Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith. Also in attendance, Hilary Swank and Karolina Kurkova, who both adopted Kors’ Spring 2013 signature stripe in two very different ways.

Last night’s 70th annual Golden Globe Awards was a pretty epic lesson in red carpet trends. From the bright colours to the mermaid tails to the boob shows, the A-list all seemed to have consulted with each other’s stylists before arriving at the event. Red rose to the top of the colour charts, making bright appearances on Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture, Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta and Claire Danes in Versace. Richer shades were worn by Naomi Watts in Zac Posen, Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier and Lena Dunham in Zac Posen (the verdict’s still out on Dunham’s dress, though we really don’t like to speak negatively about such a precious human).

Pastels also seemed a strong message on the red carpet, with every hue in the candy coated rainbow being tested against the natural beauty of the night’s various stars. Jessica Alba‘s signature bronzed glow was offset by her creamsicle orange Oscar de la Renta trumpet gown. Meanwhile, Golden Globe winner Jessica Chastain chose the most ideal aquamarine on the colour wheel for her Calvin Klein gown. Bravo!

On the flip side, stark black and white (and even a combo of both with Julianne Moore’s graphic black and white Tom Ford column dress) predictably showed up en masse on stars like Anne Hathaway in beaded white Chanel, Amanda Seyfried in stunning white Givenchy and Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman, who were both clear standouts in statement-making black Alexander McQueen dresses.

And the mermaid tails, oh those mermaid tails. Thought they were retired? Think again. The ole pyramid hem is proving to be on a clear comeback, as worn by Amy Adams, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba.

As for the aforementioned boob-show, one flip through out Golden Globe red carpet gallery would show quite the bountiful selection. And really, is there much wrong with that?

The Michael Kors Spring 2013 ad campaign images have just hit the web and it has us daydreaming of sunshine and road trips. Models Simon Nessman and Karmen Pedaru (a Kors regular) are featured in the campaign shot by Mario Testino, which marks his 10 year anniversary with Michael Kors.

The shoot took place in Los Angeles and has a classic Americana vibe featuring stripes, sunglasses and muscle cars.  The shots perfectly capture the Spring 2013 collection which features sportswear and mod inspired looks. Given that Kors was inspired by California for the collection, we’d say that poolside in Palm Springs would suit this collection perfectly.

Farewell Tangerine Tango! Emerald has officially been announced as Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2013. In a press release published this morning, Pantone said of their new favourite hue:

“Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. Also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity, no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.”
