TIFF 2013: Bring on the A-listers! 13 best dressed picks from the red carpets, parties and premieres
See the TIFF 2013 red carpet best dressed picks »
After ten days of red carpet premieres, after parties and celebrity stalking, TIFF 2013 has officially come to an end.
Possibly the best (and most well-dressed) year yet, Toronto had quite the roster of A-list celebrities in town to promote new films and projects. While the crush-worthy men looked as dapper as always, it was really the ladies who stole the show, bringing glamorous outfits onto the red carpet.
Cool blue tones were a favourite amongst the stars (possibly a nod to the emerging Spring 2014 trend?) with the colour appearing on Olivia Wilde, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Aniston—to name a few.
And while celebrities like Taylor Swift, Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson opted for the minimalist yet sultry look in solid colours, how could anyone forget Keira Knightley’s whimsical printed dress by Mary Katrantzou.
Not ready to let go of TIFF just yet? From Nicole Kidman’s tailored pantsuit to Kate Winslet’s glowing pregnancy style, we’ve rounded up the top TIFF red carpet looks and all you have to do is vote for your favourite.

TIFF 2013: The beauty secrets behind Olivia Wilde’s sexy ’60s red carpet look
Olivia Wilde looked cheerful and flirty with her beau Jason Sudeikis at her red carpet premiere of Rush on Sunday night, a mood enhanced by her ’60s sexpot cat-eyes and tousled waves. L.A.-based makeup artist Melanie Inglessis (who also did Wilde’s makeup for FASHION’s September cover) was responsible for her look, which was a nod to the retro feel of the film, the true story of rival race-car drivers in the 1970s.
“I did a really sharp black line on the eyes and a lot of lashes, like a modern Sophia Loren,” says Inglessis, who used a full strip of lashes for each eye but cut it into five pieces, applying them along the lashline and on top of one another for maximum coquettishness. “It was a flared cat-eye, shorter at the beginning and longer at the end.”

TIFF 2013: Scarlett Johansson, Jude Law, Mila Kunis, Jessica Chastain and more stop by the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew
See all the pictures from the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew »
Considering Holt Renfrew hosts the TIFF Variety Studio every year, one would expect all the stars to be immaculately dressed (quick shop before the presser, anyone?). Well it seems someone must have been thinking like us because all the celebs were dressed to the nines in their designer wares.
A newly-engaged Scarlett Johansson was spotted perusing the men’s section (buying goodies for her fiancé, perhaps?) in a paneled plaid/leather dress by Sachin + Babi. Paired with chunky, patent, platform Robert Clergerie loafers, it was a total ‘90s throwback. The only thing that had us a little confused was her pin-up girl hair, which seemed a bit too fussy for her elegant-grunge look.
As expected, Third Person co-stars Mila Kunis and Olivia Wilde both knocked it out of the proverbial park with their haute wares. The Black Swan star chose a very slimming/Slimane (get it?) Saint Laurent tuxedo and Nicholas Kirkwood heels, while Wilde went a little more unconventional in an embellished Marios Schwab top and skirt and Jimmy Choo heels.

Keira Knightley vs. Olivia Wilde: Who wore Mary Katrantzou best at TIFF 2013
We’re only four days into TIFF 2013 and it’s already been been A-list filled. Though the weekend presented us with some rain, it definitely did not stop the style stars from showing off amazing looks including two leading ladies, Keira Knightley and Olivia Wilde, who both showed support for It Brit designer Mary Katrantzou.
We’ve already ogled over Keira Knightley’s effortless beauty (here are 17 photos to prove it!), but we can’t pass up the chance to go into more detail of that beautiful red carpet look. While last year the British actress channeled a more dramatic look, it was refreshing to see Knightley gracing the red carpet this year in something colourful. Reminding us of the nostalgic spring days at Saturday night’s premiere of Can A Song Save Your Life?, Knightley opted for a whimsically printed strapless dress by Mary Katrantzou, featuring a strapless bustier and a voluminous skirt that grazed past her knees. Allowing her dress to get the full attention (as it should), she completed her outfit with a pair of nude/pink ankle strap suede heels by Christian Louboutin. As the quintessential English rose, she finished off her look with subtle but deep purple eyeshadow, nude lips and a chic chignon with her tousled bangs that delicately framed her face.

TIFF 2013: $20,000 got Maria Bello into the pool for charity at yesterday’s Artists for Peace and Justice lunch

How far will Maria Bello go to raise money to build schools in Haiti? We found out on Sunday afternoon when she threw herself into Michael Budman’s pool on a $20,000 dare. The Roots co-founder had offered the donation to Artists for Peace and Justice for anyone who went for a spontaneous swim. And Bello was game, even though her red Marc Jacobs pantsuit was most likely dry clean only.
The bash took place in Budman’s park-like backyard, which has a full-size hockey rink in one corner, and space for a stage in the other. In between, Colin Firth, Olivia Wilde, Jason Sudeikis and Adrien Brody were among the 200 curled on Roots hockey blankets or lounging on white sofas to hear performances by Daniel Lanois, Michael Bolton and Rufus Wainwright.

TIFF 2013: Olivia Wilde, Chris Hemsworth and a surprise appearance by Liam Hemsworth on the Rush red carpet

Are we seeing triple or was that the entire Hemsworth family on the Rush red carpet last night at TIFF? Star Chris Hemsworth was joined by his actor brothers Luke Hemsworth and Miley’s on-again-off-again fiancé Liam Hemsworth (whose scruffy beard has us thoroughly divided). While Chris wore a three-piece Gucci checked suit and deep burgundy tie, his brothers took care not to show him up in simpler grey looks. Also present, was the Rush star’s wife Elsa Pataky who was looking super haute in a white embellished Elie Saab Fall 2013 gown.

TIFF 2013: Fassbender gossip! Plus 23 shots of Olivia Wilde, Dakota Fanning and more at the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew

Critics were rendered speechless at Friday night’s premiere of 12 Years a Slave—and at the Variety Studio yesterday at Holt Renfrew, the same thing happened to us when Michael Fassbender, one of the film’s stars, entered the room along with director Steve McQueen and a few members of the cast. Wearing a black shawl collar sweater and dark jeans, Fassy (as we’re in the habit of calling him) sent our fangirl hearts racing in delight as we shrieked inside, trying to process that we were breathing in the same air as him. Also, dude has like the tiniest waist ever.
While waiting to be interviewed, we watched as Fassbender made a beeline for a tray of strawberries. Despite making a sour facial reaction, he gave the berry a thumbs up. No, like literally a thumbs up. Annnnd we’re officially jealous of fruit. Then he tilted back a glass of Moët, chatting with co-star Alfre Woodard and laughing at something she said before posing for a photo with her. Meanwhile the film’s lead, Chiwetel Ejiofor, sidled up to the British Airways bar and had a cup of something hot—hopefully having to say thank you to everyone complimenting his much-buzzed-about performance hasn’t made him lose his voice.

Nicole Kidman vs. Olivia Wilde: Who wore the pantsuit best?
The pantsuit, the women’s tux, Le smoking, as Yves Saint Laurent famously called it—there’s no doubt this menswear-inspired get-up is perfect for work and even more perfect for the red carpet. We love when the A-listers leave frothy gowns back home in favour of this riskier look, so when we saw Nicole Kidman doing just that at TIFF 2013 yesterday, we couldn’t help compare her to a recent pantsuit-wearer, Olivia Wilde.

Katy Perry vs. Olivia Wilde vs. Coca Rocha: Who wore the Emanuel Ungaro leopard-print dress best?
See the leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro looks up close »
It’s the battle of the fashionable felines and the competition is fierce. Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards saw a solid mix of fashion hits and misses on the red carpet. And though it was hard to focus on anything other than Miley’s mini buns/butt, something about Katy Perry’s dress was giving us serious déjà vu. We soon realized that we’d seen her leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro look not once, but twice before. The gown was worn by Canadian model Coco Rocha at this year’s Met Gala, and more recently by our cover girl Olivia Wilde in FASHION’s September issue. Quelle scandal!
Rocha wore a floor-length version of the dress (that only a supermodel could pull off) to May’s annual Met Gala in New York. The thigh-high slit was refreshing, considering the gown’s high neck and long sleeves. The model completed the look with ankle boots and blunt bangs. Rocha had fun with her makeup opting for seriously dramatic eyes and bright pink cheeks. At the VMAs, Perry, who undoubtedly chose the print in celebration of her insta-hit “Roar,” paired the seriously embellished curve-hugging gown with black and gold sandals by Céline. Unlike Rocha, the singer let the dress do the talking (or the meowing) with minimal makeup and a high ponytail.

FASHION Magazine September 2013 Cover: Olivia Wilde
Between filming several major movies slated for release this fall—including Rush, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September—actress Olivia Wilde took time out of her hectic schedule to be photographed for FASHION’s September issue.
Photographed on a building rooftop amongst the striking high rises and waters towers of New York City—Wilde’s hometown—the 29-year-old actress poses in a feather and mesh dress by Gucci.
After a full day of shooting, Wilde spoke to features editor Elio Iannacci on her upcoming batch of films (including Third Person, which was written and directed by Canadian Paul Haggis and co-stars Mila Kunis and James Franco), her philanthropic work and her upcoming collaboration with fiancé Jason Sudeikis.

In addition to the babeular list of studs that includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adam Levine and Chris Hemsworth, the ladies expected are pretty cray!
