Bouffant hair tutorial: How to add some Lana Del Rey-approved volume to your look
Alright kids, this hair tutorial is a fun one. Considering that she’s the cover of our Summer issue, it only made sense to take inspiration from Lana Del Rey for a hair tutorial. While she’s often spotted styling her hair in loose waves or a deep side part (both of which we just happen to have tutorials for as well: waves here, side-part here) Lana Del Rey’s fondness for the ’50s and ’60s mean she’s sported a bouffant more than once. The video for “National Anthem” is all about the Lana Del Rey bouffant and she wore her hair up for much of her summer festival tour in 2012.
While the thought of attempting to add a few inches of volume to your hair may seem overwhelming, the bouffant is easier to master than you may think. If you can tease your hair, you can do a bouffant. This bouffant hair tutorial was created in conjunction with Toronto-based hairstylist Margot Keith, who knows a thing or two about adding impressive amounts of volume to even the sleekest heads of hair. She’s also made learning how to do a bouffant totally foolproof. Read on for our complete step-by-step hair tutorial.

Lana Del Rey style: A chronological guide to the singer’s best fashion moments
See Lana Del Rey’s style evolution »
See our Lana Del Rey cover shoot »What can you say about Lana Del Rey? Well, what can’t you say about Lana Del Rey. Since she burst onto Youtube with her questionably homemade video for “Video Games,” her beestung lips, larger-than-life bouffant hair and exaggerated almond nails have utterly transfixed. If you’ve ever visited this site, you’d know how much. (Case in point: this step-by-step tutorial)
In her videos, she’s channelled everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Nancy Sinatra. In performances, she’s a total badass. Her vintage aesthetic has been used to sell H&M, Mulberry, Jaguar and more loosely, the American dream. IRL, Lana Del Rey’s style is akin to a modern-day hipster. Her look is constantly transforming, and as such, deserves observing.
In celebration of our current cover girl, we set out to document our favourite Lana Del Rey style and fashion moments on and off screen. Beginning with her first awards show appearance in Prabal Gurung’s ubiquitous floral-print dress and later, in standout looks from Vivienne Westwood, Versace and more, we catch LDR at her very best. And since we know that the latest greatest look is always around the corner, we’ll be adding to this look book á la this never-ending ode to the Duchess of Cambridge.

FASHION Magazine Summer 2013 Cover: Lana Del Rey
See the Lana Del Rey cover shoot »
See our Lana Del Rey style look book »There are so many questions surrounding Lana Del Rey. As one of the most enigmatic pop stars of this generation, the 27-year-old talent stands as a sphinx in a sea of overexposed bold face names. Taking a break from recording “Young and Beautiful“—her just-released track off The Great Gatsby soundtrack—the Queen of Sadcore escaped from the confines of the L.A. studio she was toiling in to spend a day shooting with FASHION magazine in Malibu’s Zuma Beach area. The breath-taking beachfront spot Del Rey handpicked for the cover seemed to transport the crew into her dreamy world of ‘50s pinups and MGM icons, evoking the essence of Lana Del Rey videos off her debut, Born To Die, her latest E.P. Paradise and her new duet, “Summer Wine,” which features her boyfriend Barrie-James O’Neill.
Features Editor, Elio Iannacci had a chance to witness the magic unfold and chat with Del Rey after her epic 10-page photo shoot was done.

MET Gala predictions: Our 10 favourite looks of the past and guesses for what the A-list might wear this year
See our favourite MET Gala looks and predictions »
It’s been a couple of months since the last big red carpet event and let’s face it: what is fashion without the red carpet? Since May is just around the corner, this only means the biggest fashion event of the year, the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in New York. This year’s exhibit, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, will feature around designs for both men and women focusing on the evolution of punk’s influence in the world of fashion since the birth of its movement in the 1970s to its present day.
With punk theme as the focus, who better than to have punk’s latest muse, actress Rooney Mara, and Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci as this year’s co-chairs alongside Anna Wintour and Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo? Not usually associated with punk, Beyonce was named Honourary Chair of the event as if her show-stopping Givenchy dress at last year’s MET Gala was not enough of a reason to be given this honour.

Lana Del Rey covers Leonard Cohen in her latest video, Chelsea Hotel No 2
They say two wrongs don’t make a right. But sometimes, three rights don’t make a right either. Or do they? I’m still undecided. Lana Del Rey has released her latest video, a cover of Leonard Cohen’s 1974 “Chelsea Hotel No 2.” The instrumental beauty, which has long been rumoured to have been written about Cohen’s […]

Brit Awards 2013: The top 4 looks on the red carpet
See the Brit Awards Red Carpet looks up-close »
With the Oscars just a few days away, the Brit Awards 2013 mark the last few red carpet moments before Sunday’s grand finale. The excitement is building to a fever pitch, to say the least. The annual music awards show included some of the world’s most famous musical artists. While we won’t be seeing them at the Oscars, they certainly used this moment to shine.
With a more relaxed dress code, many of the attendees experimented with new styles slightly outside of their comfort zone. Taylor Swift arrived in a sophisticated sleek black dress by Elie Saab with a double slit—a more mature look for the singer. Lana Del Rey also wore black, but with a casual vibe that is perhaps not as glamourous as usual. She opted for a simple Chanel shirtdress. Alexa Chung also defied convention, wearing a white Valentino jumpsuit with a pair of simple black stilettos. But leave it to Rita Ora to up the glamour of the Brits. She certainly didn’t play it safe in an Ulyana Sergeenko blush pink couture gown.
Who’s your pick for best dressed on the red carpet?
