Sarah Jessica Parker wows with a week of glitter dresses
See Sarah Jessica Parker’s looks up-close »
While the days of Carrie Bradshaw may be in the past, but Sarah Jessica Parker is still turning heads with every red carpet appearance she makes.
The Sex and the City star may have outshone the A-listers at the premiere of Sam Mendes’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical in London on Tuesday. Joined by a dapper husband Matthew Broderick and their ten-year-old son James, the stylish Parker-Broderick family was all smiles on the red carpet. Possibly inspired by the famous golden tickets, Parker was decked out in a glittery Marc Jacobs number from the designer’s Resort 2014 collection. The black and gold striped sequined dress showed off her famously petite frame, and was paired with a simple black and gold plated bracelet. SJP finished off her look with a pair of classic black heels by Manolo Blahnik and a colour-block Fendi Baguette bag.

Met Gala 2013: The 25 best dressed on fashion’s most important red carpet
See the Met Gala 2013 red carpet photos »
The build up to this year’s Met Gala has been major. Designers, celebrities and the fashion elite have been scrambling to piece together a look that fits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s theme, PUNK: Chaos to Couture and while admittedly, the punk-inspired looks were few and far between, we were certainly thrilled with a few.
Channeling her own recent V Magazine cover, Miley Cyrus went latter day Debbie Harry with platinum blonde spikes and a long fishnet Marc Jacobs dress. Anne Hathaway debuted a similarly bleached bob alongside her date and dresser for the night, Valentino Garavani, sending the twittersphere in a tizzy.
Co-chairs of the event Riccardo Tisci and Rooney Mara went punk-light with Mara in a beautifully detailed white lace Givenchy dress and a pop of crimson on the lips.
Also wearing Givenchy was none other than Beyoncé—the honourary chairperson for this year’s event. Pairing her custom-designed strapless black and gold printed gown with blinged out boots in the same shade, Queen Bey proved for her second year in a row that last on the red carpet is always best.
After finally receiving the Anna Wintour nod of approval, Kim Kardashian made an appearance at the Met Gala 2013 in a floral-print Givenchy dress with baby-daddy, Kanye West at her side.
Someone who is more known for consistently nailing red carpet looks than Kimye, is Emma Watson and she hit a high note yet again in a skin-bearing Prabal Gurung dress with a single silver drop earring hanging from her left ear.
And while Kristen Stewart has held fast to her role as the face of Balenciaga’s Florabotanica, she strayed from the house’s new wears, opting instead, for a crimson Stella McCartney pantsuit.
So who was the best dressed at the Met Gala 2013? Vote in our poll!

Inside Tiffany’s Blue Book gala in New York: Gwyneth Paltrow, Carey Mulligan, Sarah Jessica Parker and more
See the Tiffany Blue Book gala photos »
Gwyneth Paltrow, Carey Mulligan, Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Williams and Jessica Biel. The guest list for last night’s Tiffany Blue Book gala read like an Oscar red carpet.
But it was all about aqua, with New York’s Rockefeller Center bathed in pale blue light and a 4-storey high blue box erected over the ice rink. Inside was a ’20s-style supper club with mounds of lobster and beef tenderloin, free flowing champagne, plumed aerialists hovering like exotic birds and Smash’s Megan Hilty belting out show tunes. The elegant excess reflected Tiffany’s starring role in the soon-to-be released The Great Gatsby, with the $200,000 diamond headband worn by Mulligan in the film on display alongside pieces from Tiffany’s 2013 Blue Book collection which goes on sale today.

Sarah Jessica Parker vs. Blake Lively: Who wore florals best at Target’s Toronto opening?
See more photos from Target’s Toronto opening »
On Wednesday, Target rolled out the red carpet to celebrate its arrival into our home and native land. Walking on said carpet and heading towards the aisles and aisles of goods in the Danforth location in Toronto was none other than megawatt stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Blake Lively, looking positively springy with floral details.
Both dressed in light ensembles but we saw SJP in an age-appropriate outfit with white pants, a sheer polka dot button-up and safety pinned blazer over top. What really made the whole look stand out was the oversized flower boutineer on her shoulder, taking florals for spring to a very literal place.
As for Lively, the actress extended the hemline from what we’ve grown used to on Gossip Girl and opted for a pale watercolour floral dress from Roland Mouret’s Spring 2013 collection. Lively’s pale skin and pale hair and pale dress was all tied together with a bright pair of floral “Sissi” pumps by Christian Louboutin and the look didn’t even wash her out.

The spookiest night of the year has arrived and with the help of hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, it’s even creepier than normal. Couldn’t get to the exhibit? Chanel’s Little Black Jacket launches as a website
See photos from Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibition »
We have all heard of the Little Black Dress, the origins of which can be traced back to designs of Coco Chanel’s from the 1920s. But what do we know of the Little Black Jacket? Luckily for us, Chanel has a website devoted to this iconic piece of clothing.
Karl Lagerfeld has been celebrating this classic piece of fashion history in his new book, The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’S classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, and with a new exhibition on display in London a couple of weeks ago that will make its way to Tokyo, Paris and New York among other cities.
But if you don’t live in any of the cities that the exhibition is traveling to, don’t fret as Chanel’s website has it available to view online. The result is a who’s-who’s of the fashion and celebrity crowd showcased in over 100 photographs of them putting their own spin on the jacket. The innovative online exihibtion takes Alice Dellal to Vanessa Paradis among others on a unique animated spin across your computer screen.

Inside the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M launch party in New York: Kanye West, Sarah Jessica Parker and interpretive dancers take over a 9-storey dilapidated building

See the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection photos»Leave it to Maison Martin Margiela to choose a dilapidated 9-storey building hidden within New York’s financial district to house the launch event for its upcoming collaboration with H&M. To say “event” is to put it simply—performance art installation/dance party/pop-up shop would explain last night a little better. Each floor of 5 Beekman Street was reimagined as some sort of exhibit, with dancers choreographed by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker making art pieces from the aftermath of dancing around on a floor covered in white sand. Elsewhere, installations by Daniel Arsham, Frederique Chauveaux and Noemie Goudal brought the Margiela collaboration pieces to life, by projecting tableaus and hand gestures right on the pieces themselves. Atop the building, a pop-up shop stocked with the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection was swarmed by the 1,500 guests trying to snag a purchase in advance of the re-edition collection launching in stores on November 15.

It looks like Sarah Jessica Parker is bringing a little bit of her Carrie Bradshaw style to Glee
To be perfectly honest, we kind of fell off the Glee wagon last season, mostly because Lea Michele’s character started to get just a tad too annoying. But after Ryan Murphy revealed earlier this month that none other than Sarah Jessica Parker would be guest starring on the show for its fourth season, we’re definitely back on board.

They said/We said: Was Anna Wintour’s pro-Obama video inappropriate?
In what must be a first, an invitation to dine with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is being viewed as inappropriate. The sponsored-by-Obama video invitation, which was released last Friday, shows Wintour in a Thakoon-designed Runway to Win scarf as she encourages Barack Obama supporters to enter for a chance to win seats at a Sarah Jessica Parker–hosted dinner, which Michelle Obama and Wintour will also be hosting.
So, what’s inappropriate about that? A report released on the same day as Wintour’s video detailed the dismal numbers of unemployed Americans. Unsurprisingly, the Republican Party was the first to point out the unfortunate timing, lampooning the Wintour video in a video called “Meanwhile.” As Wintour’s video plays in one corner of the screen, unemployment numbers before and after Obama’s presidency flash under the title “Meanwhile…” in the opposite corner.
“There couldn’t be a better demonstration of this president’s misplaced priorities than a glitzy fundraising video release on the same day that marked more unemployed Americans,” said Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus. “It’s more than obvious that this president just doesn’t get it.”
While it’s true that the Obama campaign’s timing wasn’t spot-on in this case, will this really affect voters’ confidence in their current president? It’s important to note that both the Democratic and Republican parties have their own sets of supporters, and both organize celebrity-run dinners to bring out voters. Mitt Romney’s campaign has been promoting the “Dine With the Donald” dinner, which gives supporters a chance to rub shoulders with the business tycoon. Before the Wintour-Parker-Obama trifecta, Democratic Party supporters had come together under George Clooney’s roof as the long-time Obama supporter hosted a campaign dinner.
Does the release date of Wintour’s video show that the president is out of touch with the average American, or is the Republican Party simply using this as a convenient opportunity to take a jab at their political opponent?

They said/We said: And the CFDA Fashion Icon Award goes to… Johnny Depp?
Looks like all those years of fedoras and pirate hats have finally paid off for Johnny Depp, who was announced last night as the winner of the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award. Depp is the first man to win the award, which will be presented in June.
While the actor’s style has always been questionable entertaining, he seems a bit of a peculiar choice compared to the more obvious past winners like Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Iman and Kate Moss. We do love Depp’s penchant for headwear (and oh how trendy it is this season, ahem, Marc Jacobs), but has he ever made a mary-jane Manolo fly off the shelves? We didn’t think so.
As for the serious fashion nods, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen received a much-deserved nomination for The Row as Womenswear Designer of the Year. Of course, the twin designers face some serious competition with Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler both vying for the same award. While the rest of the list of nominees and honorees makes sense, we’ve got to ask: Is it Johnny’s sex appeal that helped him make the cut?
