Who’s next? The Bay continues its raid of Toronto talent
By Randi Bergman and Meagan Wilson
Bonnie Brooks’ reinvigoration of the Hudson’s Bay Company, and the flagship’s St. Regis Room in particular (now simply called The Room), has brought hot design names like Proenza Schouler, Thakoon and Erdem well south of Bloor Street. Factor in buzzy in-store appearances—with the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, virtually every British designer worth mentioning, and Anna Dello Russo (who will descend with street-style phenom Tommy Ton on April 20)—and Toronto officially has a new nexus of chic.

Rethink Breast Cancer fights back with the help of Patti Hansen
Marking a decade of the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer by Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada, the organization has teamed up with Joe Fresh once again for limited-edition sequined tees, colorful bullseye tees for men and women, and a classic black tote, with all proceeds going towards the cause. Instantly recognizable, Rethink’s campaign reminds women to ‘target’ breast cancer with a bullseye emblazoned across their signature t-shirts. Fashion Targets Breast Cancer is a charitable group put together by the Council of Fashion Designers of America to get leading retailers and designers involved with the cause, and has raised nearly $50 million dollars for the fight against breast cancer.

FASHION plates: Purple Rain
By Randi Bergman and Jordan Porter
Spring’s runway was a technicolour dream of sun-soaked yellows, fiery reds, brilliant blues, and everything in between. With so many vibrant hues to choose from, there’s no excuse for April showers to make us the least bit dreary. One of our biggest colour crushes for the season is purple, from aubergine to plum to magenta and mauve. You name it, and we heart it just as much as Prince did. When it pours, you can bet that we’ll be sporting a splashy shade of purple rain… gear.

TFW backstage beauty: Joe Fresh
Joe Fresh may be beloved for its cheap chic take on trends born by high-end labels, but its models could have easily passed for trust fund babes with their polished blowouts and perfect complexions—a look created to tie-in with the brand’s ’70s-inspired collection. After blow drying hair and creating a clean middle part, L’Oréal Paris’ Lead Hair Artist Eric del Monaco added movement by taking pieces of the hair and wrapping the mid-shaft around a large-barrel iron, keeping the ends straight by holding it with his fingers. Continuing the pared down beauty theme, Lead Makeup Artist Eddie Malter stuck with a neutral palette. After applying a wash of gold shadow on the eyes, he created a strong brow to anchor the look and swept a shimmery champagne shadow along the top of the cheekbones to brighten skin. Malter finished the look by applying a creamy nude lipstick on the lips.
