DIY Sunglasses: Replicate the feel of Prada’s Spring 2013 shades in 3 steps (and less than $20)
By Charisse Ang

Another season, another fantastical Prada mash up. With her Spring 2013 collection, Miuccia Prada blended sixties op art prints, silhouettes alongside Japanese inspirations like geishas, harajukus and judo. The result? Unexpectedly-covetable everything.
And while the split-toe judo-inspired platforms may still be making their way into our hearts, Prada’s Spring 2013 sunglasses have made it to the top of our must-have list. Embellished to the point of floral perfection, Prada featured a variety of shades in black, white and red, which were adorned with 3D florals in variotions of the same shades. Must. Have.

What’s in your bag, Cake Beauty founder Heather Reier?
See what’s inside Heather Reier’s bag »
Heather Reier has always had a passion for all things beauty, so it’s no surprise that her Toronto-based brand has grown such a cult following. Since launching Cake Beauty at the age of 26, she’s stayed loyal to creating products that are all-natural, paraben-free and smell as sweet, sometimes even sweeter, than freshly baked treats. She also loves pink, something that has very apparently carried over to Cake Beauty’s fun product packaging as well as to her personal purse, which is full of girly trinkets.
Her large Badgley Mischka bag is the perfect size to hold all of her essentials and Cake Beauty goodies. We must remember to pick up the Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme and Fuss-Free Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray. If Reier is carrying it in her purse, we know they get the job done. In fact, that is one of the main goals of Cake Beauty–to produce products that actually solve a problem. Reier made this a goal after using numerous products on the market that just didn’t do what they claimed to. Over 10 years later, Cake Beauty has expanded to include hair products and the line contains over 20 signature products.

Oscars 2013: 20 of the red carpet’s best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards
See the best dressed on the Oscars 2013 red carpet »
The yearlong reign of Angelina’s Right Leg has officially come to an end. Oscars 2013’s fresh crop of red carpet wows is sure to erase that blunder from our minds, at least for a few days.
Last night’s red carpet was awash with the spectrum’s palest shades. From the serene to the layer cake-like, white and pale pink took top A-list honours. And starting at the very top, Academy Award winner for best actress, Jennifer Lawrence, did Christian Dior proud in her latest look from the house. Plucked from the house’s Spring 2013 couture collection, the frothy pale pink dress was a much more feminine look than we’re used to for Lawrence, but beautiful just the same. As for that pre-acceptance speech slip up the stairs? We’ll just file that, along with this list of her epic Oscars facial expressions, away with all the ways she’s endeared us to her. Another in the pink corner, was supporting actress award winner Anne Hathaway, who stunned in a sleek petal pink Prada dress. And where the extreme side-boob pleats made for some easy jokes by many, we are head-over-heels for the look, especially its open back detailing which Hathaway paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels worn backwards.
Charlize Theron made the strongest case for white, wearing one of the night’s best dresses, another Christian Dior Haute Couture, featuring a deep V-neck strapless cut and a slight peplum waist. Babe, to say the least. Also sporting pale shades, were Zoe Saldana, Kristen Stewart and Amanda Seyfried, in varying shades of grey and cream, and Oscars 2013 nominee Jessica Chastain, who did her best Jessica Rabbit in a stunning light copper and white custom Giorgio Armani dress.
And speaking of Armani! While the rest of red carpet season seemed to be deadset on introducing the world to younger talents like Erdem, Marios Schwab, Simone Rocha and Alexander Vaulthier, Giorgio Armani made a big statement last night, with Chastain, Naomi Watts and Quvenzhané Wallis helping to reclaim its red carpet domination.
So, who came out on-top? Vote in our Oscars 2013 red carpet poll!

Fall 2013 shoes: Our running gallery of the most covetable styles of the runway season
See our favourite shoes from Fall 2013 »
Forget diamonds, everybody knows that shoes are a girl’s best friend. As the Fall 2013 trends begin to emerge, so too do the must-have heels, boots and flats of the season. This round of fashion week has brought with it oodles of new shoe trends to look out for. From strappy suede booties to architectural high heels, the New York, London, Milan and soon-to-be Paris runways are filled with quirky designs that can certainly be the finishing touch on any outfit.
So far, many designers are reinventing old classics and updating them with modern details. Case in point: high-heeled loafers, seen at Mulberry, Rag & Bone and Moschino, which gave a new feminine twist to menswear’s most classic shoe by using fresh yellows, and unexpected patterns. Speaking of unexpected combinations, one of the most unusual footwear trends is the emerging sandal-boot. Open-toe booties are nothing new, but this time designers such as Prada have created a boot customized with cutouts around the sides and front of the shoe.

Prada’s Great Gatsby costume sketches have been released!
See Prada’s Great Gatsby Costume sketches »
With each new sneak peek, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby looks to be every bit as visually spectacular as we hoped. Today, that sneak peek comes via Prada, who just released sketches for her costume designs for the film, designed in collaboration with Luhrmann and his wife, costume designer Catherine Martin.
Four sketches of the over 40 Great Gatsby costumes have been released and are all adapted from the Prada and Miu Miu archives. Reminiscent of many recent collections, the pieces are heavily embellished with beading, sequins, stones, pearls and feature Prada’s signature bright colouring. Luxurious fabrics such as velvet and fur help create the look of the roaring twenties, with many flapper hems and shift shapes in focus.
Prada’s Great Gatsby costumes mark the third collaboration with Luhrmann and Martin—the three previously worked together on the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet and the 2012 Costume Institute exhibit Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.

What’s in your bag, Cupcakes and Cashmere blogger Emily Schuman?
See what Cupcakes and Cashmere’s Emily Schuman keeps in her purse »
Emily Schuman’s blog, Cupcakes and Cashmere, is true to its title: her posts are comforting (like delicious dinner party recipes), friendly (so many style and decor tips!) and full of sparkle and shine. In real life, Emily Shuman is just as poised as the content she posts—which is likely one of the reasons she’s been able to turn her blog into a full-time career. While Cupcakes and Cashmere is based out of Los Angeles, Schuman was recently in Toronto to promote her first book, which is an extension of the blog. Holt Renfrew hosted a Cupcakes and Cashmere book signing celebration and we got the chance to sneak a peek inside Schuman’s Prada purse. While there were no cupcakes inside, we did find a macaroon-shaped container, a pair of Chanel ballet flats and a perfect assortment of pink items. Ready to explore? Read on!

Sailor Moon, Betty Boop, Jem and more take on the Spring 2013 collections in Jerome LaMaar’s amazing illustrations
See Jerome LaMaar’s illustrations »
Fashion illustration has long made our hearts skip several beats and luckily the blogosphere is full of talented artists who love to take the latest runway looks and turn them into beautifully rendered imaginative hand sketches (giving our eyes a fashionable feast). But with the recent rise in this art form’s popularity, it can be difficult to find sketches that really stand out among the many. Which is why we’re loving the work of a Mr. Jerome LaMaar, whom we discovered this morning reinterprets classic cartoon characters in the coolest looks from the Spring 2013 collections.
Everyone’s favourite Sailor Moon girls don labels like Balmain, Céline, Prada, Givenchy and Dries Van Noten’s grunge couture; Betty Boop flirts it up in Alaia; Jem (of The Holograms) gets attention-grabbing Balenciaga and Daria trades her usual green jacket and brown pleated skirt for colourful Marni prints. And that’s just naming a few. Alexander Wang, Chloé and Roberto Cavalli all get mentions as well.
