LFW backstage beauty: Swishy ponytails and Chloë Sevigny at Erdem
While Erdem Moralioglu showed Anna Wintour his pieces backstage (and everyone tried to stay out of their way), hair and makeup artists buzzed about in frenzy—this was one backstage that was not so calm. Inspired by “south of France chic” and Chloë Sevigny, Charles Worthington himself created a high, soft, and swishy ponytail to match the sophisticated, utterly gorgeous spring collection. Starting with Charles Worthington Front Row Volume Blow Dry Spray to give the roots a “sort of fluffy texture,” the girls’ hair was then pulled back and secured a two-finger width below the crown with a black elastic. Heat Defence Spray was sprayed over the ponytail to give it a bit of shine, and then a large barrel iron was applied to the ends to give them a bit of bend. “It all has a slightly soft, spontaneous look to it,” said Worthington.

LFW diary: A day of standouts from Erdem, Peter Pilotto, Christopher Kane, Burberry, Mark Fast, and Giles! (Woah!)
Today was a day of standouts at London fashion week, from Peter Pilotto to Christopher Kane and Erdem. The other shows today? Burberry, Mark Fast, and Giles, all of which included some great pieces. Burberry had cropped parkas, African-inspired geometric beading, and straw riding hats with pompoms, while Mark Fast featured looser knits—almost crochet-like, in some cases—on dresses. At Giles we saw swan headpieces by Stephen Jones and laser-cut red leather gown worn by our very own Kate King.

Celeb poll: Who was best dressed at TIFF?
Praise the red carpet gods! The stars really pulled out all the stops this year at TIFF, which was great to see, given some years’ lackluster outings. Lace, length, and print were big trends this year, and so were megawatt designers, from Marisa Tomei‘s Proenza Schouler, to Madonna‘s Tom Ford, to Elizabeth Olsen‘s Erdem. They’re all big winners in our eyes, but if you HAD to choose, who would be your favourite? Vote after the jump!

TIFF red carpet: Elizabeth Olsen dishes on her Erdem gown. Meanwhile, Juliette Lewis shows up in jeans!
At the red-carpet screening of Martha Marcy May Marlene, the taut, psychological tale of a woman recovering from time spent in a sexual cult, were stars Elizabeth Olsen, Sarah Paulson, Hugh Dancy, and writer/director Sean Durkin. Fresh from the Vanity Fair party the night before that celebrated the film, Olsen looked stunning in a long Erdem gown in rich jewel tones, which she says she chose because “it has great colour, and it feels like a long, pretty maxi. It’s the only thing I’ve put on that fit me right away.” She paired the elegant ’40s-style dress with bright-blue heels by Jason Wu.

They said/We said: This year’s British Fashion Council award nominations are out, including Erdem, Victoria Beckham, and Kate Middleton faves
The British Fashion Council just released the nominations for this year’s awards and surprise, surprise Kate Middleton favourites Sarah Burton and Erdem (yay!) are up for the Designer of the Year award alongside the always-thrilling Christopher Kane.
Other big nominations include Victoria Beckham for Designer Brand of the Year, even after last year’s controversy started by industry veterans over her nomination in the same category. (But, hey, she can sing, dance, and be pregnant in heels, so that’s got to count for something, right?) This time around, she’s up against Burberry, Stella McCartney, and Tom Ford. (In the case of Ford, apparently living part-time in London makes you a British designer?)
In the Model of the Year category, rockstar and supermodel offspring Georgia May Jagger will battle it out with Chanel muses Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy. Meanwhile, we’ve got a soft spot for all nominees in the Emerging Talent category. How can you choose between Mary Katrantzou, J.W. Anderson, and Peter Pilotto? The winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 28.

We’re seeing a trend here… Arriving in Quebec City today on the HMCS Montreal, Kate was wearing a second dress by London-based Canuck designer, Erdem! The royal blue dress with lace applique at the top looked quite like the one she donned on Thursday. Only difference? Being that today’s dress is from the Pre-Fall collection, you can get the dress right now at The Room at the Bay! We’d suggest getting there fast though, the stunner is sure to sell out soon.

We guessed it! We guessed it! Kate chose Erdem for her official Canadian debut, so that makes us 1/1 so far in our royal predictions. Kate chose this navy and white lace knee-length dress from the designer’s Resort 2012 collection, and though you won’t be able to purchase the stunner quite yet, we have official word from creative director Nicholas Mellamphy himself that the dress will be included in The Room at the Bay’s Resort selection (estimated arrival is TBD, but late Fall is to be expected). Ladies, place those orders now!
In the meantime, let’s play a little dress-up with these Erdem Spring picks: »
