Oscars 2014: 20 of the red carpet’s best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards
See the Oscars 2014 red carpet »
Nothing brightens a blustery winter’s eve like some Hollywood glitz and glam. Like every good red carpet devotee, we were glued to the screen to catch all the glitz and glamour from the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles. We scoured the Oscars 2014 red carpet for our best-dressed actresses of the night, and without further ado, your nominees for Best Dressed are…
Breakout movie and style star of the year Best Actress in a Supporting Role winner for 12 Years a Slave Lupita Nyong’o pulled out all the stops in a periwinkle Prada princess gown complete with Fred Leighton headband and jewels. She’s been on a roll this season with carefully chosen frocks and gowns so it came as no surprise that she made the cut—we’re officially #TeamLupita. Fellow Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee Jennifer Lawrence was next level in a red Dior peplum gown, which she yet again managed to trip on with cool girl ease.
Given her glamorous turn in American Hustle, it was only fitting that Best Actress nominee Amy Adams brought some retro glamour to the event. Keeping her best-dressed streak alive, Adams opted for a strapless Gucci Premiere gown, styling her signature red locks in a slick updo. Also sticking to the recent long blue dress trend was Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen. Always one to flawlessly flaunt her eccentric taste, Cate Blanchett maintained her ethereal style in a breathtaking appliqued gown by Armani Prive.
And of course, the Oscars 2014 red carpet wouldn’t have been complete without awards show mainstay Julia Roberts, marking 24 years since her first nomination, wearing Givenchy. Never one to be outdone, the legendary Meryl Streep celebrated her 18th nomination in 35 years, looking as good as ever in Lanvin.
With such a variety of looks and styles, it easy to see why the Oscars 2014 red carpet is arguably the year’s biggest bonanza of beauty and dazzling gowns. Closing out a season of terrific award shows styles with several Best Dressed nominee newcomers, it was tough to pick our favourite from the night. Who was your best dressed? Cast your vote now!

SAG Awards 2014: Our top 12 red carpet picks
See the SAG Awards 2014 red carpet »
If there were one word to sum up the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, it would be colour. All of our favourite stars opted for a bright flash on the red carpet, with nary a head-to-toe black ensemble in sight. Even Jennifer Lawrence’s Christian Dior Haute Couture column dress was an array of shimmering multi-coloured sequins that changed hues as she moved. Black, it seems, is so 2013.
Also on the darker end of things, Jennifer Garner opted for a custom midnight blue Max Mara gown, in her favourite strapless mermaid silhouette. Dame Helen Mirren once again showed how to look seductive and age appropriate with a gorgeous black gown, lifted with gold foliage embroidery, from the Escada Pre-Fall 2014 collection. The wide sash belt, pop of colour on the lips, and black and gold chandelier earrings all worked together seamlessly. We bow down to the greatness that is Dame Mirren.
Bringing some high-voltage blues to the red carpet were frequent best-dressed list toppers Lupita Nyong’o and Amy Adams, both in killer dresses. Nyong’o’s Gucci column dress featured an embellished neckline that was as unusual as it was jaw dropping. Matched with pared down jewels from Fred Leighton, the actress went on to win Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave in stunning fashion. Adams’ Antonio Berardi gown was perfectly accented with a coral lip, an embellished waist, and complementary green and blue drop earrings.

TIFF 2013: Bring on the A-listers! 13 best dressed picks from the red carpets, parties and premieres
See the TIFF 2013 red carpet best dressed picks »
After ten days of red carpet premieres, after parties and celebrity stalking, TIFF 2013 has officially come to an end.
Possibly the best (and most well-dressed) year yet, Toronto had quite the roster of A-list celebrities in town to promote new films and projects. While the crush-worthy men looked as dapper as always, it was really the ladies who stole the show, bringing glamorous outfits onto the red carpet.
Cool blue tones were a favourite amongst the stars (possibly a nod to the emerging Spring 2014 trend?) with the colour appearing on Olivia Wilde, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Aniston—to name a few.
And while celebrities like Taylor Swift, Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson opted for the minimalist yet sultry look in solid colours, how could anyone forget Keira Knightley’s whimsical printed dress by Mary Katrantzou.
Not ready to let go of TIFF just yet? From Nicole Kidman’s tailored pantsuit to Kate Winslet’s glowing pregnancy style, we’ve rounded up the top TIFF red carpet looks and all you have to do is vote for your favourite.

TIFF 2013: Jennifer Garner, Matthew McConaughey and the scoop from the Dallas Buyers Club dinner and party

While King Street West is getting a ton of TIFF action this year, Dundas West is becoming a notable neighbourhood thanks to Hudson Kitchen. The newly-opened space made headlines on Friday when it was revealed that Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and the rest of the 12 Years A Slave cast sat down for a post-screening dinner there. Last night the restaurant’s private dining room saw even more A-list action when Jennifer Garner, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto attended a pre-screening dinner for Dallas Buyers Club. (Needless to say, a reservation at Hudson Kitchen will be in high demand once TIFF ends.)
McConaughey’s impressive-scary weight loss for his leading role in Dallas Buyers Club was still visible last night, but it was certainly more of a healthy-skinny than “omg this is alarming.” After dinner at Hudson Kitchen and walking the red carpet for the film’s TIFF premiere, McConaughey, Garner and Leto arrived at Cibo Wine Bar for the official after party, presented by Audi. Unlike some of the cozier TIFF parties I’ve been to, the Dallas Buyers Club party was a massive affair—in a massive venue—and the talent was hidden away from the eager eyes of attendees. However, despite not catching a glimpse of Jennifer Garner’s pretty lace Dolce & Gabbana dress IRL, partygoers enjoyed Italian snacks and glasses of wine late into the night.

TIFF 2013: 14 photos of Jennifer Garner, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto on the Dallas Buyer’s Club red carpet

The A-listers were abounding at the Dallas Buyer’s Club premiere at TIFF 2013—you know, the one that famously required co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto to lose a combined 68 pounds. It seems these guys haven’t fully bounced back from their weight loss as they were looking verrrry tiny on the red carpet.
Leto was channeling Tom-Cruise-circa-Interview with the Vampire in an all black suit, combat boots, and blood red pocket square that set off his flawless pale skin, piercing baby blues, and ombred locks. We should probably mention that he’s 41. He looks 25. Get us whatever facial cream he’s using. Stat.
Thankfully, McConaughey ditched the blood-hungry look in favour of a classic black suit, skinny tie, and crisp white shirt. We can’t help wondering if this was the influence of his model wife Camila Alves McConaughey who chose an elbow-length black shirt with tapered black pants.

We ain’t even going to try to hide the fact that we become extraordinary (but elegant) creeps during TIFF, so without further ado, here’s our game plan for approaching the biggest and best stars at TIFF 2013.

TIFF 2013: 12 stars who might be coming to town and what we hope they’ll be wearing
From the royal baby to impending celebrity sighting, this week’s awesome newsreel just won’t stop. Yesterday, TIFF announced the first batch of films to be premiered at TIFF 2013 and as you can imagine, the list is already A-lister stacked. Since we have no shame when it comes to being starstruck, we’e okay with telling you that we’re already way more than a little bit excited to see what our favourite stars wear on the red carpet (and IRL, if we’re lucky!) when it’s game time.
In addition to the babeular list of studs that includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adam Levine and Chris Hemsworth, the ladies expected are pretty cray! Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock are just three! Shwing!
So without further ado, let’s make believe what 12 of TIFF 2013’s most hopeful attendees will be wearing to the festival’s premieres. Let’s make it happen!

Curly and wavy hairstyles are, without a doubt, one of our favourite red carpet looks. From perfectly coiffed Old Hollywood ringlets to messy beach waves, there are endless ways to wear your hair down—while still giving it some style. Curly hair is easier to master than an updo, looks much more dramatic than a ponytail and definitely has an appeal that straight hair just can’t match. Need further proof? We’ve gathered some of the best curly hair and wavy hair looks from recent red carpets all in one place. (If you haven’t already logged into your Pinterest account, now’s the time!)

Oscars 2013: 20 of the red carpet’s best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards

The yearlong reign of Angelina’s Right Leg has officially come to an end. Oscars 2013’s fresh crop of red carpet wows is sure to erase that blunder from our minds, at least for a few days.
Last night’s red carpet was awash with the spectrum’s palest shades. From the serene to the layer cake-like, white and pale pink took top A-list honours. And starting at the very top, Academy Award winner for best actress, Jennifer Lawrence, did Christian Dior proud in her latest look from the house. Plucked from the house’s Spring 2013 couture collection, the frothy pale pink dress was a much more feminine look than we’re used to for Lawrence, but beautiful just the same. As for that pre-acceptance speech slip up the stairs? We’ll just file that, along with this list of her epic Oscars facial expressions, away with all the ways she’s endeared us to her. Another in the pink corner, was supporting actress award winner Anne Hathaway, who stunned in a sleek petal pink Prada dress. And where the extreme side-boob pleats made for some easy jokes by many, we are head-over-heels for the look, especially its open back detailing which Hathaway paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels worn backwards.
Charlize Theron made the strongest case for white, wearing one of the night’s best dresses, another Christian Dior Haute Couture, featuring a deep V-neck strapless cut and a slight peplum waist. Babe, to say the least. Also sporting pale shades, were Zoe Saldana, Kristen Stewart and Amanda Seyfried, in varying shades of grey and cream, and Oscars 2013 nominee Jessica Chastain, who did her best Jessica Rabbit in a stunning light copper and white custom Giorgio Armani dress.
And speaking of Armani! While the rest of red carpet season seemed to be deadset on introducing the world to younger talents like Erdem, Marios Schwab, Simone Rocha and Alexander Vaulthier, Giorgio Armani made a big statement last night, with Chastain, Naomi Watts and Quvenzhané Wallis helping to reclaim its red carpet domination.
So, who came out on-top? Vote in our Oscars 2013 red carpet poll!

SAG Awards 2013: View our top 12 red carpet picks and vote for your favourite

2013’s red carpet train continued last night, with the best and brightest Hollywood stars making a stop at the 19th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. And as that train quickens its pace, we’re seeing many of the same trends featured at the Golden Globes shining through once again.
Continuing with the strapless red dress trend that was so popular at the Golden Globes, Jessica Chastain matched her ginger locks with a bright red fitted Alexander McQueen gown with wrapped sweetheart neckline. In the white corner, Sofia Vergara and Naomi Watts wowed in Donna Karen Atelier and Marchesa respectively. Shining the brightest though, was Kerry Washington in an incredible white strapless Rodarte gown with silver lace and embroidery.
Michelle Dockery wore a black vintage Chado Ralph Rucci dress that caused excitement with sheer panels that revealed a bit of side boob. New mom Claire Danes once again flaunted her post-baby figure in a black one shouldered Givenchy gown that featured a thigh high slit with a graphic black and white design highlighting the slit.
Fitted silhouettes were also a big trend at the SAG Awards, with Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Garner at opposite ends of the colour spectrum—Seyfried in navy blue Zac Posen and Garner in gold Oscar de la Renta.
Jennifer Lawrence followed suit in a strapless navy Dior Haute Couture gown that she looked gorgeous in despite battling walking pneumonia (and despite the rip or maybe a slip that could be heard around the world).

Celeb poll: Who was best dressed at TIFF?
Praise the red carpet gods! The stars really pulled out all the stops this year at TIFF, which was great to see, given some years’ lackluster outings. Lace, length, and print were big trends this year, and so were megawatt designers, from Marisa Tomei‘s Proenza Schouler, to Madonna‘s Tom Ford, to Elizabeth Olsen‘s Erdem. They’re all big winners in our eyes, but if you HAD to choose, who would be your favourite? Vote after the jump!

TIFF 2011: Go inside the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew and view snaps of Leighton Meester, Clive Owen, Emily Blunt, Ethan Hawke, and more!
Despite the long list of megawatt celebs (Clive Owen! Leighton Meester! Emily Blunt!) that rolled through the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew this week, the vibe was decidedly relaxed. We stopped by on Saturday to do a bit of celeb stalking and instead of the flurry of stress we thought we’d be met with, the celebs were easy breezy, spending a couple of minutes in front of the camera, and then schmoozing, playing the new Nintendo DS, drinking wine or tea, and accepting gift bags full of swag from Moroccan Oil and Canadian jewellery company Anzie.
While we were there, we spotted Rachel Weisz, alongside her Deep Blue Sea co-star Tom Hiddleston, looking breathtaking (we mean that literally) in a Giambattista Valli resort leopard dress, with a simple shape and sky-high black pumps. Leighton Meester, who was interviewed alongside scene-pros Allison Janney and Oliver Platt for their film The Oranges, was looking sweet in a Louis Vuitton resort 2012 pleated dress, a blazer by Nonoo, and pink and black Pierre Hardy wedges. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Olsen and Sarah Paulson sported matching prints.
