Billboard Music Awards 2014: The top 5 best dressed on the red carpet
See the Billboard Music Awards 2014 red carpet »
On Sunday night, the Billboard Music Awards 2014 saw some of the world’s biggest music celebs all together in full star-studded force at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Some viewers were interested in who was taking home the top music prizes of the night, but we were more excited for the pre-show red carpet, as always.
Jennifer Lopez tops our list, flaunting her toned legs in a red sheer Donna Karan gown that gave us major JLo circa 2000 Grammys vibes. Doing the same shade justice, Iggy Azalea went uncharacteristically conservative in an elegant Zuhair Murad gown and subtle makeup.

Met Gala 2014: The 54 best dressed on last night’s epic red carpet
See the complete Met Gala 2014 red carpet »
If reports about Anna Wintour wanting this year’s Met Gala to be more exclusive were true, they certainly did not apply to the A-list. Last night’s red carpet was stacked (and we mean stacked) with just about everyone from the recluse to rising star. Surely, it had something to do with the fact that last night was the inaugural Met Gala celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renamed Anna Wintour Costume Center. Maybe too, it was just like the rest of us have been trained to understand: The Met Gala is not to be missed.
Honouring oft-forgotten American couturier Charles James, last night’s event was all about 1950s glamour. Its “white tie” guest-list prompted gents like Johnny Depp and Kanye West to wear tails, Zoe Saldana to wear a recreated Michael Kors bustle and both Taylor Swift and Sarah Jessica Parker to take to the stairs with over-the-top Oscar de la Renta trains. Unlike the sometimes cookie cutter Oscars, the Met Gala is a time to break out some real steez and red carpet queen Lupita Nyong’o did just that in a flapper-inspired feathered Prada dress. Perhaps more Poiret than James, the dress made for some serious chatter from both the “for” and “against” camps. Fellow red carpet queen (and queen of life, truly) Rihanna went anti-theme in a sexy stomach-baring Stella McCartney dress which killed, as usual.

Top Fall 2014 Trends: 226 runway and street style photos of fashion month’s 10 biggest moments

Your first time at any international fashion week will teach you a valuable lesson: You need a fur. And not just any Margot Tenenbaum style granny hand-me-down. A fur so intricately patterned, multi-layered and artificially coloured, that it has to be designer. Given its place at the apex of the top Fall 2014 trends, you’d think recessionary times were long gone—it’s virtually everywhere, from a hyper colour mink at Altuzarra to a fluffy red dress at Prada. Wear it with caution or as Dior prescribes, dangle it over your arm like it’s no big d. Let the fur fly, scruples or otherwise.

From ball gowns to the avant-garde, designers have kept their hues in check this season, using a pretty strikingly clear palette from which to create. Here are some of the standouts, Pantone-approved or otherwise:

Katie Holmes vs. Anna Kendrick: Which sweetheart star was best dressed in the front row at NYFW?
See the front row looks up close »
While our street style shots have captured an abundance of colour on the streets of New York, it seems that all-black is the dominant trend in the celebrity-filled front row. Case in point: Katie Holmes and Anna Kendrick. Holmes has been working the NYFW circuit for a few years now, whereas Kendrick is quickly becoming a front row staple at this season’s shows. While they have yet to sit side by side , their style is certainly in tandem.
At last night’s Donna Karan Fall 2014 show—which was also the label’s 30th anniversary—Katie Holmes switched up her usually demure style with a sexy black Donna Karan outfit. Comprised of a fitted leather bodice and flowing, sheer black skirt it was a departure from the city-casual looks she’s become known for. (Speaking of, her Holmes and Yang label doesn’t seem to be showing this season. Hmm.) The actress kept her hair simple with a tousled, natural wave and her makeup was at a minimum—very much in line with her campaign looks for Bobbi Brown. While Suri would have been an excellent addition to her outfit, Holmes looked like she was enjoying her solo night out and spent much of the show chatting with British singer Rita Ora.

New York Fashion Week backstage beauty: 57 pictures of the best manicures and nail art from the Spring 2014 shows

The nails at New York Fashion Week were right in tune with the ’90s minimalism style we saw on the Spring 2014 runways. Sheer is in, colour is out and the nail art trend seems to be winding down. The bare and buffed nails of last spring are still going strong for 2014, with designers like Altuzarra, Alexander Wang and Jeremy Laing opting for pale shades of pink, lavender or beige instead of punchy pastels and neon brights.
